When I want to close the last tab (window) open brave want to close all. That is VERY annoying 
someone suggested double clicking, that doesn’t work either so basically I have to close everything and get back in
Maybe I need to go back to firefox as my mac browser is getting too old for many sites and I am NOT buying another computer when this one works very well.
I am not sure I understand you here.

There is an option in Settings: “Close window when closing last tab”
Un-select this option, and you should have what you want.
