Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
- Open Brave;
- Go to my personalised YouTube playlist and play the track ‘Wardruna - Skugge (Shadow) Official Music Video’ at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B74AK0MHxOA&list=RDGMEMYH9CUrFO7CfLJpaD7UR85wVMXbByxzZ-4dI&index=6;
- At the end of the song (or when manually skipped to the end) the video automatically changes (to ‘Dwig - Orange Evening // Laut & Luise (LUL007)’ at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RXdd0pCJ9Q&list=RDGMEMYH9CUrFO7CfLJpaD7UR85wVMXbByxzZ-4dI&index=6);
- Tab completely inoperable. After 3 seconds, the playback halts. Later, after clicking around an ‘Unresponsive Tab’ warning pops up and snap - SIGILL. Linked information page is not useful.
Expected result:
Video plays as normal without error.

Additional Information:
I have tried:
- Disabling all extensions;
- Clearing all cache data for all sites forever;
- Different URLs and videos;
- Disabling H/W acceleration;
It started in the last week. I can’t remember when it started as I thought it was a transient error, but it’s reoccurred since then and is quite reproducible.
Some logs:
Not much of obvious relevance here, but lots of errors and things it can’t find or do and nothing was echoed at the time the tab froze. Not sure how to enable debug logging, either

No idea why Brave is trying to use mailboxes or why it doesn’t know why something has hung or even why it mentions about:blank when I didn’t have a new tab open… But then, modern software development standards are more… ‘informal’ now.
Notes:
- I’ve only found these video URLs, I couldn’t find another that causes this erratic behaviour;
- Doesn’t seem to happen when the webdev console is visible;
- Doesn’t seem to happen when the browser/tab doesn’t have focus.
I haven’t tried reinstalling Brave yet as I have no reason to believe that the program is corrupted. I suspect it’s the usual bug introduced in an update.
(Maybe it’s time to focus on core functionality more? Not much one can do about the accepted proliferation of technically questionable ideas like poor/frustrating/buggy JS and WAsm… K.I.S.S. and the whole world of “Do one thing and do it well” didn’t last long, did it? Feature creep or unclear development paths are a feature now.)
