YouTube on Brave Browser unstable and causing freezing

Description of the issue:

Using YouTube playlists on Brave is unusable in a lot of cases. Whole browser freezes up to the point where Brave gives an option to close tab as it is unresponsive. I have a really powerful computer and strong internet connection so no reason why it should be slow, other browsers speed through playlists with no issue. Can consistantly reproduce.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary).

  1. On a new tab, open YouTube.
  2. Navigate a video on any page.
  3. Click video.
  4. Naviagate UI.

Playlist cause much more issues, and is where Brave crashes very often for me.

  1. On a new tab, open YouTube.
  2. Search for a playlist.
  3. Open playlist.
  4. Let video play, navigate UI.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:

Browse, select and navigate playlists and UI without Brave crashing or freezing up.

Reproduces how often:

Reproduce every singe time.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

Windows 11 Version 21H2, OS build 22000.434
Brave Version 1.35.100 Chromium: 98.0.4758.87 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@Yxnder Nice detailed support request!

It appears your support request may have been overlooked. Can you provide an update?

There have been several Brave version updates (currently 1.36.112) and I am wondering if any of those resolved issues 1 & 3.

For issue 2, if you haven’t already discovered, you have to submit a wallet unlinking request following the instructions in this post: Unable to re-verify wallet - #118 by Mattches

Below is a Help Center topic that explains device limits/wallet linking. The device linking limit is going to be removed in a future version update. Hopefully soon! Lots of community members are eagerly waiting for this, myself included! :grinning:

How many Brave Rewards wallets can be linked to my crypto custodian account?

Issue 2 & 3 are solved, thank you. Issue 1 is still prevelant and YT still seems to be very slow in general, but unusable with playlists. I have switched to Edge as I don’t know what is casuing the problem and how to fix it. I could try to DM a video of YouTube on Brave being very unstable and often unusable, if possible?

Just curious, have you tried with Shields down and is there any difference? Also, did you try creating a new profile and see if it works there? and finally, are you using any extensions and have you tried disabling them? I think the moderators will ask these questions at least, but who knows.

I think you can upload a video into your post and you can then tag the moderators. This might help others in the community experiencing the same issue. Could you try that? You can also DM the moderators. I would change the title to indicate the YT problem only. Include a link to this post and the video.

Ok, trying with shields down didn’t fix it, but creating a new profile solved the problem, everything on YouTube seems to be fine now on that profile, but the issue is still present on my main profile. I already tried disabling all extensions and reseting my Brave Browser settings to default on my main profile so I don’t know what else could be affecting it. I don’t want to use a the new profile because everything is already set up the way I like it on the main profile.

I will try to DM a moderator because I couldn’t get the GIF of Brave being unstable and crashing under 4mb to post on the forum.

Well, that information is good to know!

Did you try clearing cache/history on your main profile?

Also, is hardware acceleration in brave://settings/system disabled after the reset? This was just posted recently and I wonder if your graphics driver could be contributing to the problem and I’m wondering if there is some flag in brave://flags that can help.

A DM to the moderators is a good idea at this point. You can also tag them in your post. Hopefully, a moderator (or even a community member) can solve your issue. I’ve given as much help as I can! Hope your problem is resolved soon.
