I did go through and try those suggestions given in earlier posts about this same problem, but none of those suggestions have worked to stop YouTube videos from starting the minute the tab opens. Has there been any headway on this or any new things I can try?

I’m having the same problem. It’s not the end of the world but it may be the end of my sanity.

I agree. It’s annoying at the least and makes me crazy. At least I blocked the sound so it doesn’t blast out on top of playing away.
Note that this is a known issue – I’ve added your reports to the github thread and made some noises about it internally, as I know its frustrating and definitely agree that it should be resolved asap:
