YouTube started to lag extremely hard!

So, few days ago all of the sudden YouTube started to lag like hell. Sure, videos work fine but scrolling the main page or trying to answer to replies is impossible because it lags very much.

I tried to do it in incognito mode and it’s the same result. Tried to disable all of the extensions, didn’t helped. Cleaned browser’s history and other stuff, didn’t helped too. Disabled Brave Shield, same result. Didn’t helped.

Also to note that, every single other website that I’m visiting works perfectly fine. Twitter aka X, Facebook, Deviantart, moddb and many others. All of them work fine except YouTube that lags like hell.

Brave version: 1.78.94.

YouTube is wise to Brave and you’re getting throttled. My experience has been that they block my browser altogether with a notice that it violates Terms of Service regarding ad blockers. So I started adding ad blockers, with no improvement. I did start a separate topic on this issue months ago and still haven’t been notified of a reply to it.

I’m at Brave 1.78.97 (on Windows 10 x64 Home 22H2). No noticeable lag at Youtube.

When scrolling, do you mean to view the comments? I have seen where Youtube is slow to populate the list of comments. You didn’t mention an example Youtube video, so it could be the ones you visit have tons of comments. There is a momentary pause to sort the comments, so a lot of comments will take longer to sort.

You didn’t mention at which resolution the video is playing. You might try adding the following command-line argument to a shortcut that starts brave.exe:

–disable-frame-rate-limit

I’ve visited sites that test this setting, and the increase in the frame rate change is dramatic. Why this is not the default, or a user configurable setting is unknown. It’s a stab to see if it helps you are Youtube. Might help, might not.

In Brave, I have auto-play disabled. That gives me a chance to chance to change volume (since Brave has no default HTML5 media volume setting as does Firefox) before the video starts playing to eliminate videos that blare at full volume. That gives a second, or two, for the comments to populate. Note: I also use the Enhancer for Youtube add-on to set HTML5 volume to 0.1 (10%) to eliminate the startling blare of loud audio. It also had an option to sort comments which adds a slight lag; however, it has an option to hide comments, so you could check if it is the comments that cause the scroll lag.

I am not logged into Youtube when I visit there. Are you? If so, logout, restart Brave, go to Youtube, and see if the lag continues when viewing as a guest.

You added the “windows” tag to your post, so you’re using Brave on Windows. Are you using any 3rd-party anti-malware other than Windows Defender? If so, see what happens when you temporarily disable it to remove it from interrogating your web traffic.

So that’s what happened. Understood. It’s all of the youtube’s fault. I hope that Brave team get this resolved somehow because, it’s just frustrating and impossible to use youtube properly.

No, like I open YouTube and right on the main page aka home page it starts to lag. And when I’m scrolling the page up or down, it feels like it works in 5 FPS or something. Same when I’m viewing the replies and are trying to answer to someone, the text typing lags too, which causes a delay and makes it impossible to type the text faster. But when I’m watching the video, any video, or scrolling through someone’s channel then everything is fine.

And no, I’m not using any anti-virus software on my PC for a long time. Simply because they are useless most of the time and performance heavy. And yes, I’m logged-in to my account on YouTube, but I doubt that it’s the problem.
