Youtube lagging

Every time i try to play a video on youtube and use 1080p resolution or play it on 2x speed, it starts to lag and load a lot, like once each 10 seconds or so.
I am trying every single thing but until now nothing worked.

I’ve already:

  • Clean installed my graphics driver
  • Cleared cache and coockies
  • Removed all extensions
  • Reset the browser to standard
  • Turned on Hardware Acceleration
  • Changed ANGLE graphics backend to OpenGL, Default and D3D11
  • Tried to open a video on a private window
  • Updated Brave Browser

I dont really know what to do anymore. Searched every single post about the topic, tried every single solution people have done, and none works for me.

It was disabled? Which GPU/platform is this? Which version of Brave?

Yes HW Acc was disabled, it turned it on for testing, but disabled it again.

@Bajiraya,
First, great job troubleshooting the issue before coming here — you’ve knocked a lot of potential causes off our list.

That said, it I’m not entirely sure why you’re seeing this behavior. I’d be curious to know if you get this same behavior if you were to download the Beta build and test streaming Youtube there.

Note that you can download/install/run the Beta without over writing anything on your current Brave install (it will run as a separate browser).

Disabling GPU Acceleration will increase CPU usage and will create more stutters in video playback

@Bajiraya do a favor and answer me the following things. Do note that 5 and 6 are only needed if the others don’t seem to yield results. It all does take some time and effort on your part, but might do good on everyone figuring things out a bit more.

  1. Are you saying this happens only on YouTube and no other website? If not sure, please do some testing and advise. It would be nice to know if it’s just an issue with playing videos in the browser or if it is indeed only videos on YouTube that’s causing you grief.

  2. Just for a short while, test with Shields off and see if any impact. (obviously might have ads while off, but it’s just to see if any difference)

  3. While I doubt we’ll see an impact, it might be helpful to try a new profile as it seems you didn’t mention that. At least helps narrow down possible issues if you can give it a shot. It’s Hamburger Menu imageMore ToolsAdd new profile. Then just test on that without changing settings or adding extensions.

  4. Can you open your Intel Graphics Control Center review settings in there. Especially try to find anything related to Brave and see what you have. If you don’t have anything like that, you might want to grab it. Link to Intel about it is https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/graphics/graphics-command-center.html and would let you tweak your graphics settings a bit to run things better.

  5. As Mattches mentioned, could you test on Brave Beta and/or Brave Nightly and see if it happens there as well?

  6. For testing purposes, mind trying to see if you also experience the same issue in Chrome?

Im going to try this, thank you for the suggestion.

Im gonna try all of these above my friend.

Luckly i’ve already tested the 6th topic. Chrome run 100% normally, no lags at all.
