Youtube in Brave (Win10): Annoying horizontal scrollbar keeps popping up

Description of the issue:
Sometimes (irregularly, not always but often enough to be annoying) when viewing Youtube videos in fullscreen mode in Brave browser, a useless horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom of the screen, even when the zoom level is set to 100%. The scrollbar goes away if I change the zoom level from 100% to 80% in fullscreen (but naturally I don’t want to keep zoom always set to that level since this reduces the size of text and other elements on all webpages everywhere).

A few screenshots to illustrate the issue:

Screenshot 2: Even after switching out from fullscreen mode, the scrollbar can still be seen at the bottom of the screen. The zoom level is at 100% as visible in the menu setting.

When I now change the zoom level to 80% while in window mode, the scrollbar can still be seen. But it’s shorter so changing zoom level has SOME effect on it.

Screenshot 3: I switch back to fullscreen mode while the zoom level is at 80%. The horizontal scrollbar is no longer visible on screen.

Screenshot 4: I change the zoom level back to 100% without exiting fullscreen (using the Ctrl+Mouse Wheel shortcut). The horizontal scrollbar reappears.

How can this issue be reproduced?
Unsure of exact steps. It happens irregularly on seemingly random videos, and is not always reproducible even on the same video when opened in another browser tab after a short period of time.

Expected result:
The scrollbar should not be visible unless it is necessary.

Brave Version:
= latest version as of this post: Version 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Win10 Pro x64 v22H2 (OS build: 19045.2965)
Single monitor at 3840x2160 resolution.

Just tested on my end and can’t get the scroll bar to appear. Tried a bunch of different resolutions and zoom levels. To clarify, you’re changing the zoom level of the browser itself as opposed to in system settings, is that correct?

Yes, the browser Zoom level as depicted in the menu in the 2nd screenshot, and in the pop-up notification in the upper-right corner of the 4th screenshot.

Going to ask some other team members and see if they are able to reproduce it. Do you happen to have any extensions installed in the browser at this time?

Yes, at the moment the following are installed:

  1. Speed Dial
  2. Tampermonkey
  3. uBlock Origin
  4. Windscribe - Free Proxy and Ad Blocker

Sometimes extensions cause weird issues like this. Can I get you to try and reproduce this using a fresh browser profile and see if the same thing occurs there?

  1. Launch Brave, go to Main Menu --> More tools --> Add profile
  2. Create a new profile (you’re welcome to delete this after testing)
  3. Close your original profile window (so only the new profile is open)
  4. Visit youtube and login (if desired) and try streaming content in full screen and see if the scroll bar appears

I know it may be hard to test as you stated that the behavior is inconsistent but it would help us determine whether the issue is with Brave itself or the specific profile you’re using.

Couldn’t reproduce in a new profile, but it’s not readily reproducible in the main profile either (it shows up like maybe several times per day). I’ll try disabling the extensions for now, and observe for a few days and report on the results.

Yep, caught it just now with disabled extensions.
