Youtube cracked the ad code apparently

Brave was doing a great job of blocking the ads on youtube but something changed today that is allowing them through. Bummer

Version 1.73.101 Chromium: 131.0.6778.139 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@JJinVA — this is something that will continue to occur, as Youtube implements different ways to get around and/or block different ad blockers. It is not specific to Brave but rather is reflective of Youtube’s efforts.

I will let our Shields team know about this. In the meantime, please go to brave://components and ensure that the Brave Ad Block Updater component is fully up to date (click Check for update to ensure there aren’t any newer versions). As of today, the latest version of the component appears to be:

For me, there is no “Brave Ad Block Updater” in components.

@Mantask15 your issue should be different than OP I would think. It looks like your components aren’t updating and show just the 0.0.0.0 or so. As such, I’m assuming you’re going to see ads on any website you visit. Something has happened to isolate your components folder, such as being put in an admin folder and it’s not seeing you as an admin, at which point it can’t fetch and use them. So it’s basically like they don’t exist on your device/profile.

Btw, which OS and version of Brave are you? I’m assuming you’re not the same setup as OP?

Thanks for reply. Will look into that.

@Mantask15 okay, yeah. I figured as much. So this is related to ongoing issue that is inherited from Chromium.

Issue I have is I’m not entirely sure the best recommended course of action when people have this issue. Some people have reported it gets resolved if they just go to brave.com/download and install on top of their current version, which does a forced manual update. But others say it doesn’t resolve.

I forget where the components folder is listed, but could always delete it and then have it redownloaded, which may resolve.

But I think about the only “guaranteed” way is to uninstall Brave and erase its data, then install again. Obviously that’s not a desirable method.

I’m going to tag in @Mattches to see if he knows better answers on that.

You were right, it is a windows / ownership issue. When I run brave as admin, everything updates, and works fine.
Will have to dig deeper into that. Thanks!
