Why there is no sync with email like Chrome?

If you login with your email all you bookmarks and settings sync wherever you logged in.

For instance when I format my PC or just change my PC doesnt matter, I open Chrome and log in with my email. Everything got synced, I dont have to do anything but this. Too easy and useful.

That is because Chrome is from Google and therefore incorporates google login. Brave has similar feature called sync, you get a phrase of 25 words ( First 24 being same with the last changing each day, atleast for now ) or if mobile device to be paired with PC you can scan QR

Thank you for reaching out, we’re always working to improve Brave. Please try the following:

  1. Launch (Mom’s) Chrome
  2. Navigate to the Chrome Bookmark Manager
  3. Click “More” option on the top right and select “export”
  4. This should export the bookmarks as an HTML doc.

Then

  1. Launch Brave
  2. Open Main menu --> Bookmarks -->Bookmarks Manager --> Options (top right) --> Import
  3. Select the HTML file output by Chrome

About the option to open Chrome and log in with your email, If you wish to have this as a version of this feature on mobile or PC, could you kindly submit a feature request over on Community. You can share your thoughts here -https://community.brave.com/c/brave-feature-requests/57.

Having an email/account Sync makes it possible to lose or for someone to steal this information and gain access to your account. The way we have Sync setup now, makes it impossible for anyone (us at Brave included) to access or view your data. It is unlikely that we will change this.

It is not working properly. I have that sync words and try to use. I lost all my bookmarks and had to copy back from Chrome again. It should be a way to log-in option to make it easier and stable in my opinion.

And you can lose that recovery key words too. I dont think it is a reasonable answer.

Im going to format my PC and lost my settings and bookmarks on Brave unless i export my bookmarks to local file. I will lost all the settings no matter what. I can not sync Brave PC and mobile versions to each other also that another problem.

If you want to format your PC, you should create a Sync chain with your mobile device, Sync all data to it, then format, then resync your formatted PC to the same chain.

As far as why Sync is not working for you, can you please elaborate on where you are getting lost in the instructions?

Unless they have the sync phrase, obviously.

Yes, sure. But ideally, your Sync phrase is not located on a server somewhere or stored anywhere online where it could be leaked.

Only real issue with Sync is that we added the word that changes daily. I liked the idea of being able to have a code stored away that would serve as a backup of things went wrong.

If the last word changing each day, how you gonna recover, if you lost your laptop, and buy new one like 1 week later, you can not recover because you have one word missing. Right?

To quote from the developers:

Warning: Brave does not officially support using the Sync code as a backup and you should not rely on this continuing to work in to the future. Use the export functionality in bookmarks and the password manager instead.
