Weird browser windows behaviour

Description of the issue: After last update to Brave 1.62.153, windows have a weird behaviour when ever I tried to close them, be it by (X) button or pressin CTRL+SHIFT+X.

**Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):

  1. Open a window with two or more tabs.
  2. Try to close the window with all tabs at once.
  3. Look how it enlarges, shrinks and deforms itself but cannot close until crashing the browser.

**Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): Look how it enlarges, shrinks and deforms itself but cannot close until crashing the browser. (Couldn’t generate a gif)

Expected result:

**Reproduces how often: Every single time I try to close a window.

**Operating System and Brave Version: Linux Mint Debian Edition 6, Brave 1.62.153,

**Edit 01: It’s happening when I try to edit the Bookmarks.
**Edit 02: Same issue with beta version.

@Saoiray Just tagging you to take a look at this issue. Thank you!

Downgraded to a previous version.
Problem solved.

@VAPG1974,
I would be curious to know if you are seeing the same issue when using the latest version of the release build, v1.62.156

I updated Brave Stable release to v1.62.156 and the problem persists but it freezes and bounces less time but that depends on how many tabs there are. Beta version shows no improvement. Downgraded back to v1.62.147.

Other uses experiencing the same problem are all of them Ubuntu and Debian 12 users and not a single Arch-based or Void or NixOS user, so could it be a .deb issue?

@VAPG1974,
Can you please tell me if there are crash reports in brave://crashes? If so, can you please share them/the crash report IDs with me here so the team can take a closer look?

There are plenty in Stable, but Beta shows zero report.

I’m having a problem that sounds very similar to OP. When trying to edit bookmark folders (add folder) the contents of brave’s window becomes spastic, constantly jumping around and changing size randomly. The browser becomes completely unresponsive and shows very high CPU usage. No window controls work and the browser can’t be closed from the task bar. The only way to stop it is to brute force kill it and restart it (and then restore the tabs). The version I’m using is 1.62.156.

This is a standard binary update release from the Linux distro Manjaro’s official repositories.

To reproduce, start brave and use the right-click menu in the bookmark bar and try to add a new bookmark folder.

The same issue has been reported by Debian 12, Ubuntu users (LMDE fag here), and now even Arch based distros experiencing this?

Thank you for the reports — having the team take a look at these now.

Update: Just upgraded to Version 1.62.162 and the problem persists.

Same here just a few minutes ago, downgraded to several versions, Brave 1.62.47 was the last oone without this problem.

Any news about this, good fella?

I’m having the same problem. Endeavour OS (Arch) with KDE Plasma. Closing the browser window causes it to “dance” around the screen and will not close until I “crash” it. Everything is up to date.

I think that the team is aware of the issue and are taking a look at it presently — captured here:

I will not update from 1.62.147 until getting news of this situation is fixed. Now even Arch distros are affected (btw).

Try downgrading to another previous Brave version (in my case it’s 1.62.147 the last one without that issue).

I’ve just updated to latest stable release version (even though the previous beta release version had the issue fixed). Everything works fine so far. Thank you, guys.
