Video Quality in Brave Talk -- Free vs. Premium

Hello,

I have tried the free Brave Talk calling service several times and I find it to be reliable.

I am looking for a conference calling option that is private for about 30-100 people.

I am wondering if the video quality for the Brave Premium option is better than the free version. The poor video quality is the main barrier for me adopting the service in a professional setting.

Do you offer a month trial or something to test the Premium Brave Talk service?

Also, can you confirm what data is collected by using the service? IP logs, 2FA? Are calls recorded or data kept by Brave or 8 x 8 or anyone else involved in the service?

Thank you.

@nebusomfry,
Thanks for reaching out — these are good questions!
So to start, you will need to use Brave Talk Premium in order to meet the needs you’ve described above (namely for meetings of that size).

As for the video quality, are you referring to the video resolution or the frame rate? Note that there will be some tradeoff between the two. That said, while in a Brave Talk call, you can go to More options --> Performance settings to adjust for quality vs performance:

Additionally, you can go to More options --> Settings --> Video to adjust the frame rate for sharing. Note that this setting will apply to you only — so if other users are presenting during your meeting, they will also need to adjust their frame rate settings as well.

Yes, you should be offered a at least a free 7-day trial for Brave Talk. It may actually be longer for Talk than the other services, please allow me to double check this.

Lastly, Brave Talk does not collect any of your data nor is anything recorded or kept by us with the exception of if you record a call using Brave Talk — in which case the recording is stored for 24hrs before it is automatically deleted. You can read all privacy related information for Brave Talk here:

Hope this helps.

Thank you Mattches for the prompt reply.

I will try some calls and adjust those settings to see if I can improve the video quality.

So, from what I gather from your reply the call quality should be similar between the free vs. paid options?

That is correct.

Brave Talk includes screen sharing, in-call chat, and virtual hand raising/reaction icons, among other features.

Great. Thank you for the reply. .

Okay. I have done some testing. I found the Performance settings at the top of the screen next to the clock.

But I was not able to find the frame rate settings through the path suggested.

Can you walk me through those steps again?

@nebusomfry,
Sure! Launch a Brave Talk call, then:

  1. Click the overflow/more actions/three dots icon:
  2. Then click Settings:

  3. Click Video and adjust the Desktop sharing frame rate:

Yeah. Okay. I did follow the procedure correctly. I just get a different result. This is what comes up:

Maybe I need to enable something…
