Unfortunately I recorded a podcast with brave talk and the quality is just not up to par. Specifically the guest’s frame rate for the video is at like 15 fps or less. This is very unfortunate as i suspect its brave setting the guests video camera to a low frame rate.
For example when you start up a call you have to go to your own settings and change the frame rate MANUALLY to up to (30??) Fps. This is just insane to me as i do not believe that the connection was the issue at all. What is going on with them not prioritizing the frame rate of the call?
The video is now arguaaly unwatchable as its just so laggy and takes away from the conversation. Why is this not fixed by now in 2024?
Can the team confirm if this is on purpose or if there is a bug that automatically sets the guest and the hosts FPS or video frames at the lowest possible setting. This is not good, I shouldnt have to explain why nobody wants to have laggy frame rate over quality.
Proof that the default is 15 fps unless you change it. Why would I have to tell all my guests to change their setting to ONLY 30fps? Why is it not standard 30 and why is there no option over 30 fps? https://drive.proton.me/urls/9255GV1DV4#TFVX6r0pUvQn
@gilbert,
Apologies for the late reply here.
This is a great question and I don’t think it’s come up before. I’m honestly not sure what the exact reasoning for this would be. I’ve reached out to some of our Talk devs for clarification on this.
@gilbert,
From what the team is telling me, the reason for this is due to a tradeoff that comes with frame rate and resolution. With a higher frame rate, the quality of the image tends to dip, which often leads to things like text being unreadable. The default that is set is to optimize for the type of content most users will typically share.
If you’d still like to change the frame rate for future talks, if you are the only presenter, you can set your frame rate to 30fps and everyone should see anything done on your end at that rate. If you have other presenters, you’ll have to have them set their frame rate before presenting.
I would recommend testing the higher frame rates out first to ensure that everything happening on screen is still easily visible in the recording.
Thats not optimal… why would I ALWAYS have to tell my guests to change their settings…
why would you not make standard a 30fps? If its a video call with humans talking aka for a podcast why would we care about the text not being readable whenever the connection drops? People care about faces and reading lips
Why do you think gamers aim for higher frame rates? Why do smart phones have higher screen refesh rates with every new phone? This is sloppy in my honest opinion and truthfully it RUINED a good conversation I had.
Why isnt it standard? Its 2024! This isnt some new software.
Ill have to tell my audience that your brave talk software is designed to be LOW FRAME RATE and to forgive me for having faith in a new non google software. Absolutely unacceptable please forward this to the team maybe they should watch everything on their phones and pc etc on 15 fps to see how rediculous that idea is.
Who is in charge to make those decisions and who is pushing that idea? SIGN ME UP FOR THE TEAM BECAUSE WHAT THE HELL IS THIS
