Importing financial forms from Fidelity Investments into the TurbtoTax desktop app on Windows silently fails.
How to reproduce I am not sure since how to you can reproduce the bug since it requires a desktop TurboTax app and a Fidelity account with brokerage tax forms. On my Windows 10 laptop (fully updated), the desktop version of TurboTax fails to import tax forms when Brave is my default browser. When I direct the Turbotax app to import the forms, it pops up a new Brave window containing a Fidelity login script. After I login, the script in the Turbotax popup window reports a successful connection and transmission but none of my Fidelity tax forms subsequently appear in the Turbotax app. The Turbotax app continues to display the screen for initiating the importing of forms from Fidelity.
I used exactly the same feature of Turbotax to import forms from tiaa.org using Brave without any problem, so the problem appears to be Fidelity specific.
I worked around the problem by changing my default browser to Firefox. The same import transaction that failed using Brave succeeded using Firefox. The Turbotax popup browser Window created via Firefox worked exactly as TurboTax stated it should.
Brave Version:
Version 1.77.95 Chromium: 135.0.7049.52 (Official Build) (64-bit)
This issue sounds like a browser-related compatibility problem that can affect importing tax forms into TurboTax. For people handling their own taxes or offering tax and bookkeeping services, it’s important to understand how technical issues like this can impact accurate reporting. In this case, TurboTax couldn’t import Fidelity tax forms when Brave was set as the default browser, even though the login appeared successful. The workaround—switching the default browser to Firefox—allowed the import to work correctly. This shows that if you’re dealing with tax software problems during form imports, trying a different browser can sometimes solve the issue. Always double-check that all forms are properly imported, especially when preparing financial records for tax purposes.
