The translator rarely work, is there a workaround?

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

The API call returns INVALID_LANG_CODE - to a 100% valid lang code.

Sometimes when I’m too lazy to open Chrome for translate I keep retrying until it eventually works, or I manually specify another language that is similar to mine.

Note it’s not consistent, sometimes it works but it’s uncommon.
When it does work, sometimes it’s slow or only translates part of the page. I have a feeling all the probs are due to the remote translation service.

Does it affect everyone?

It’s always been this way for all installations of Brave I’ve used.

@oiadfjaw Really helps if you can include the template and the information requested when you create a topic. Some things, especially which version of Brave you’re using, are kind of critical in knowing where to look and how to help.

If you would, I’m going to toss some questions and all below, would appreciate it if you’d answer each one.

  • Which OS and OS version are you using? (I know you have tagged for Windows, but is it Windows 10, Windows 11, or what?)

  • Which version of Brave are you using?

  • Does this issue happen on any particular sites or does it happen on all?

  • Does this issue happen regardless of language or only when trying to translate from or to a particular language?

  • You mentioned been like this for all installations of Brave. How long has this been going on?

  • Have you tested on Brave Beta or Brave Nightly?

  • Does it work if you try in Private Window?

  • Does it work in a New Profile without any extensions?

Any site however it seems to works more often on static page sites (not long JS renderings)

Only Danish ‘da’. Did a quick test of 2 Chinese sites and no problems.

I believe I switched to Brave over a year ago. It’s installed on 4 different work stations, latest workstation setup was a couple months ago.

Have you tested on Brave Beta or Brave Nightly?
No

Does it work if you try in Private Window?
No, went in to private, same prob. Reproduced using https://tv2.dk/

Does it work in a New Profile without any extensions?
No, created a new Windows user, same prob. Reproduced using https://tv2.dk/

Notes
I translated an with the networking log open.

1st attempt.
It made 2 calls to https://translate.brave.com/translate_a/t?anno=3&client=te_lib&format=html&v=1.0&key=xxxx&logld=xxx&sl=da&tl=en&tc=2&sr=1&tk=xxxxxx&mode=1

One responded with 200 and an array of translations
One responded with 400 and {“code”:“INVALID_LANG_CODE”,“message”:“Unsupported lang code for translate: ‘da’”} - this response was immediate

2nd attempt. (same session)
Both calls responded with 400

3rd attempt. (same session)
One responded with 200 and an array of translations
One responded with 400 and {“code”:“INVALID_LANG_CODE”,“message”:“Unsupported lang code for translate: ‘da’”}

Potentially some serves don’t have ‘da’?

Update: I replied but automod hid the reply until it’s approved.

Doing a google search, it appears this issue could be a few years old
