I don’t think you can. Per the recent posts below, it looks like it was a feature at one time that is no longer available.
Not sure where to post as I am bran new to this forum. I HATE the grid tab layout. When it went to chrome, I tried it for a couple months and hated it. A friend told me about Brave, tried it, loved and it kept the card stack.
Now it for some reason it went to grid view. I have disabled grids in flags but it does not work. I absolutley hate the layout, the apperance and the utility. I have a gimpy hand and have extreme

Why did they bring the grid view or why weren’t we given the choice. Please bring back the stack view.

There are several active topics relating to your post. They have more information and links to Brave GitHub issue reports and comments. Brave is working on this.
This issue started with Chromium deciding to remove this functionality. At one time, the code was still available and Brave was maintaining that, but then Chromium removed the code entirely. Per a post by Mattches, a moderator:
This (vertical tab view) was something changed upstream in Chromium a while back but we kept it in Brave. When Chromium 99 came out, the view was removed completely and we had to make the choice between supporting it ourselves entirely (non-trivial) or removing the feature as well.
I believe there are still discussions about re-implementing this view and/or adding alternate view options in future releases. That said, none of this is guaranteed. I’ve asked our Android team to see if there is any…
