Suddenly getting "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube"

I don’t know if you are aware but Youtube anti adblock screen is based on screen resolution, in the developer options (right click > Inspect) and change the resolution or choose another device like for example an iPad Air or something similar will not give you the anti-ad block screen and add-ons like SponsorBlock works like normal.

Still, this might be a temporary solution.

Download popup blocker. It should block the popup and then you can block youtube ads and the popup for “Ad Blockers Are Not Allowed” Should just disappear. Hope this helps!

Any extension that touches youtube could also randomly trigger anti-adblock messages.

i fully agree with you on allowing adverts to pay the content creaters but the problem is corporations are greedy and if you allow one advert you can be dahm sure on the yearly review they will add another one to increase revenue and this would never end, adblockers simply draw a line in the sand.
i remember the internet without blockers and it was a mine field for adverts and alot of it was malicious so people natually want to protect themselves.

Hi. I had the same issue - Brave at first prevented the YT anti-adblock screen, but then stopped doing it and it was very difficult to get a video to play (had to refresh many, many times). I used the, already mentioned here, code to shields - nothing. Then I removed the Malwarebytes plugin from Brave… It works fine since a couple of hours now - no Black Screen of Death anymore. Fingers crossed it will keep working.
So maybe some of you will be able to solve this by fiddling with your plugins?

My temp solution for now without having to install another browser is to install ublock origin and install youtube from the brave browser(searchbar top right).
This allows youtube to run without the brave shield which is the issue but with an adblocker without detection and without having to use a less private browser.
hope this helps peoples.

I have read through the entire posts history (took me a couple of minutes) and I don’t see a lasting solution. For now logging in on a private browser seems to work although I suspect google wil find a way to also block that.
The only extension I am running is ublockorigin and Adobe acrobat (components are up-to-date as is Brave itself), I am not very tech savvy and I only started using Brave once this… youtube anti-adblock crap started. It worked fine for a few days and afterwards it completely blocked me. I am convinced it is account specific and I honestly don’t want to recreate an account on google. Nowadays so much is linked to it that it creates problems. If there is any ‘true’ solution I would love to hear it, or concrete tips and tricks to get this ball rolling again.

they seem to be far more extreme on brave than anything else. setting up chrome or firefox with ublock seems to work.

from my own experiments even if you shut shields down on brave they still lock you out. I honestly dont think this is about ad blockers from my own tests. I think youtube is going after braves specifically for some reason.

U seem to be correct, no issues with firefox… This is really strange
As a side note, it doesn’t seem to be locked at my account. If this only happens in ‘standard’ Brave browser and not on Firefox or Incognito-Brave.
I thought I had figured this out, and that thus my account was ‘blacklisted’ or something but this doesn’t seem to be the case. At least not at this moment, sure enough that google/youtube will circumvent this loophole

I’m in exactly the same boat as you. I have years of stuff tied up in my YT account, includling lots of playlists, and I just don’t have the time or energy to try to duplicate everything on a new account. What YT is doing is most definitely account-specific, and I’ve never encountered anything online as aggressive as what this multibillion-dollar corporation is trying to do to squeeze out a few more bucks from ordinary people who can’t afford their premium service but just want to enjoy some videos without being inundated with ads every two minutes. I’d consent to paying maybe $5 a month for an ad-free YT experience, but $14? Not a chance.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to defeat the pop-up, and nothing has worked except opening YT in a private window. Not updating Brave components, not deleting all my extensions, not even trying other browsers. So far, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Vivaldi have all failed me. Deleting cookies works for a while, but eventually the pop-up comes back. I know the people at Brave are working on all of this, but I imagine it’s a tough nut to crack. I figure all I can do is wait and hope.

I haven’t seen the Anti-adblock popup for a while. Test in private window mode, no extensions. Failing that, test in Brave Beta

I’m getting a new issue that I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing. The pop-up doesn’t happen anymore, but in playlists, I try to watch a certain video, but then YouTube just starts skipping all the way to the last video in the playlist, and then starts the next recommended video from the list on the right side of the screen and stays there. The video doesn’t play, it doesn’t show loading signs, I try to click on certain places in the length bar, I try to press play, and while it shows whether the video’s playing or not, it doesn’t do anything. The video length time doesn’t show up and stays on a black screen with no error messages. It’s been like this since October 22 and on Private Windows, I’ve updated Brave to the latest update, and even after disabling ad-blockers except for uBlock Origin YouTube is still doing this. Is anyone else getting this issue?

UBlock Origin was causing the problem for me. Thanks for the suggestion.

That doesn’t work. The Ad Blockers are not allowed seems to have a by account component to it, as if I switch accounts on YouTube to a channel I use for uploading contents, video playback returns to normal, but on the account I usually use for personal video viewing, I’m blocked form video playback at this point.

I can confirm this, just did it and got the same result. But I also got the same result by using YouTube’s built in “Switch User” feature to change from my normal account I use purely for personal playback and switch to an account I upload videos to and the ads still don’t play but the video playback blocked message does go away.

So I think there’s a component of that message that’s tied directly to your Google or YouTube account.

Does clearing the cookies and cache, then re-login help? Does Brave Beta (completely new profile), help?

hi everyone it easy solve the problem and i just did it by reset the brave and clear and it will working again after i got that message and lock the video and i reset it and it working fine.

Well a little update.
Firefox eventually gives the same problem. After a couple of days the anti-adblock just pops-up and blocks everything. Until either a) the cache is cleared or b) I log out of youtube. The same solution seems to be working in Brave, as was pointed out by other users.
This is stil very strange to me as it seems to locked to each account and not the extensions itself (which Youtube claims to be targeting). If there is any true solution besides, removing all adblockers or getting a fresh YT account (or using YT without an account), then I would love to hear it. I don’t really understand how this could be resolved in a decent manner.
*Possible (temporary fix) is to install an auto-cookie-deleter

They are definitely targeting specific accounts.

  • YouTube working fine last night
  • This morning account on Brave and other browsers keeps getting pop-up ad no way to bypass
  • Open links in private window and they work
  • Log out of account and they work

Oh no, I have to open YouTube videos in a private window what a mild inconvenience. YouTube is getting ridiculous. This looks like it’ll hurt the creators more than those of us adamant about not paying for premium. I really don’t care about interaction on YouTube, I’m just trying to watch some DIY videos.

Hope Brave can resolve it soon nonetheless

Clearing cookies and cache works for a while, but eventually the pop-ups come back, usually within a day or two. I have no idea what it is that triggers YT and starts the process all over again, especially considering I’ve uninstalled every single extension on my Brave browser and I have everything updated on brave://components.

Brave Beta doesn’t fix the problem, at least not for me.

The only thing that has worked without fail (one week and counting) is to log in to my YT account in a private window.
