A couple days ago websites started to freeze when I use the mouse to scroll a page, the only solution is to exit the page and reload. The arrow keys don’t cause a problem and it doesn’t happen on other browsers. I’m using a laptop with Windows 11 Pro. This problem is so bad it makes Brave unusable. Brave is up to date and I’ve cleared cache and cookies.
Hello @ZenRipley, thank you for letting us know about this. Are you are using extensions? Please disable all of them or one by one to see which one might be causing the issue.
If it does not work, can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration
You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration
Also, going to brave://flags
> Search Vulkan
> Disable Vulkan
> Retest
Hope it helps. Regards.
Disabling a couple of my extensions seems to have worked, but I don’t understand why. I don’t have that many extensions in the first place (was 6, now 2) and I’ve had all of them for a couple years, no new ones.
Why did I just start getting a problem now?
Maybe the extension updated or had issues with a specific site or specific conditions. Would go through the extensions and work out which is causing it. Which extensions do you have?
@Jarc-1107 @ZenRipley hey brave allies.! For some reason I can’t log in to my rewards account.
Hello again @Defi.Emirati. Are you getting any specific error message?
Hi, I take it back, I’m STILL having the scrolling issue. I’ve removed ProKeys, Qwant VIPrivacy, some other extension for bulk downloading and one other I don’t remember (I was no longer using any of them). All I have left are OneTab and Screen Shader. I also have a couple of extensions from my anti-virus software Bitdender (Anti-Tracker and Wallet). Those four are all the extensions I have.
Just temporarily disable all the extensions while testing, you can always re-enable them back. When everything is disabled, test the scroll freeze issue. Is there a specific webpage that you get this freeze?
I think I got to the bottom of the freezing issue (which was happening on every web page), it looks like it was caused by the screen shader extension. I tried several others that seem to work better, then I installed screen shader again and immediately had the same problem.
One question , one of the extensions I tried has several features, it doesn’t seem to cause a web page to freeze but it does slow it down significantly, is there a way to improve it? Just curious.
strong textou will be notified if someone mentions your @name or replies to you
If the extension is at fault (bad coding or a bug), just report to the extension author.
It’s definitely the extension, I’ll contact the author. Thanks!
