Description of the issue:
Hello Brave community. I have a problem. What happens is that I was updating Nightly at 50% and suddenly I get an error code and it tells me: An error occurred while checking for updates: The installer detected an error 8. (error code 7: 0x80040902: 8). Version: 1.73.39 and on top of that I uninstalled Nightly and reinstalled Nightly and it tells me the following message (This computer already has a newer version of Brave. If the software doesn’t work, uninstall Brave and try again) There must be a server problem or not
I got the same error message on my standard windows account. I downloaded the nightly brave bowser on my standard account. Then I login to my admin account and the nightly brave bowser is on my windows. thanks
@sakusaku yes, correct 1.73.43 the same screenshot you shared
Most likely there is a server issue. I don’t know what happened. I was downloading the Nightly BraveBrowsersetup-BRVO10 installer again and it refused to install the installer and I get the image (This computer already has a newer version of Brave. If the software doesn't work, uninstall Brave and try again)
I’m having the same problem. I can download the file that is linked to from your link, Mattches, but when I click on the Installation package, the browser is downloaded, but I get an error message saying that installation has failed.
FWIW I already do have Nightly installed. But when I try to update from within the browser, I haven’t been able to update, just like the others here, my update stalls at 50%.
As @shivan mentioned above, we’re aware of issues on the Nightly channel where upgrades are failing. We’re looking into the issue and hope to have it fixed soon. In the meantime, if you want to grab the latest Nightly, you can always grab them from https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases.
However, the more concerning issue is the reports about users getting 1.73.x on the Release channel which shouldn’t be happening as 1.73.x is currently on Nightly.
@sakusaku could you also go into brave://version on the installation were you have 1.73.x but it appears as the Release channel? Should look something like the following:
Brave 1.73.48 Chromium: 131.0.6778.14 (Official Build) nightly (64-bit)
Revision 8476a912b289f7e4386a7bf4d3f3441752937c2b
OS Windows 11 Version 23H2 (Build 22631.4317)
JavaScript V8 13.1.201.4
User agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/131.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
I only say that because I tend to always check version and get update (just by going to About Brave and triggering auto update if it hadn’t done it on its own) when I see Steeven make topics showing an update. So a couple days ago was Release Channel 1.71.118 and I think I remember updating at that point.
To add to above, I know I would have checked and had it. If noticed it go to 1.73 I would have asked questions. I’m pretty sure the 1.73 update hit on my end at some point today. And as soon as I noticed, I immediately started reaching out to people to try to figure out why it was different.
Not sure what you all will end up seeing, but my assumption based on input everyone has had is that “the streams got mixed,” essentially. It seems like Nightly was trying to receive the update that was meant for Release and therefore wasn’t updating. And then Release ended up with the update meant for Nightly. No clue as to the “how” but at least seems to be the quick answer of “what” happened.
Guess my big question is if will be trying to roll back to older for those of us who received the wrong update, if we stay on it until newest versions hit, or what the end game will be?
