sriram, I have tried this but no joy. I also looked in the Tor folder that Brave creates and there is no sign of any data file having ever being created. I think that this is because I am not ever being connected to the Tor network so the data file is not generated.
Could you check the Tor.log under %appdata%\brave\tor\data\
? Does the log say `Bootstrap 100%: Done? Or does it show any error message in the log?
I have used EasyFfnd for the Mac and the Tor.log is not present nor is %appdata%\brave\tor\data
As I said earlier the data file is not being created. The Data folder and the Watch folder are both empty.
I am having similar problems trying to connect to Tor network within private tab on Brave for Mac.
I am also using El Capitan Mac OS 10.11 but am not using VPN and the log files are empty.
I did get some info from Terminal when starting up Brave from the Terminal App as suggested in this thread and interestingly I got this error:
dyld: Symbol not found: _getentropy
Referenced from: /Applications/Brave.app/Contents/Resources/extensions/bin/tor (which was built for Mac OS X 10.13)
also:
[2158:20483:0703/002512.669737:ERROR:tor_launcher_impl.cc(218)] tor got terminated by signal 5
[2151:1295:0703/002512.756102:ERROR:tor_launcher_factory.cc(105)] Tor Process(2159) Crashed
This i think is indicating that the tor code was written for Mac OS 10.13 and above and may not be compatible with older versions of Mac OS such as 10.11 El Capitan.
I would like some confirmation from the Brave team if this is correct.
Thanks.
Ok so i was trying to connect through tor using Brave but I canât connect. I read through the post and I saw something about a tor.exe file. I actually looked it up and I started it and I recieved this:

Can someone help me?
PS: If there is a problem of the long log, please tell me so that i can paste it in pastebin
We donât seem to be getting much input from the Brave team on this issue. Is there some other area where this question will draw their full attention where we can get help with this please?
Well it is only in beta and iâm sure the team are aware of some issues like this, maybe we just need to wait patiently for an update that increases compatibility with older OSâs if that is indeed the problem we are experiencing.
You can follow the teams progress on pending issues with Tor and others over at Github. https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues
@Verita If tor is unable to start on macOS, that may be a symptom of https://github.com/brave/tor_build_scripts/issues/18 which weâre looking into. This appears to be the case of @dogcowâs problem.
@thewinner958 Your problem is a little different. It appears that we are unable to reach the Tor network. It is possible that you are on a censored network. Just to double-check, can you confirm: (a) whether you can browse the web in Brave without Tor, and (b) whether the Tor Browser works on your network?
Thanks, looks like youâre ontop of the issue.
Thanks for this update taylor, much appreciated knowing that it is being investigated by the team.
@taylor Well the browser works fine if I am not in the Tor network on Private Tab and I did had problems with the Tor Browser not connecting to the Tor network at all which I needed to use a tunnel and the same problem happened in OnionShare which I needed to change the settings so that it could use the Tor Browserâs configuration.
@thewinner958 OK. It sounds like your network blocks access to the Tor network, then, so you will need a bridge or some pluggable transport to reach the Tor network. We have an issue to track this, but unfortunately we probably wonât be able to add this feature for another couple months: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/12989
Update: Thanks guys, (@taylor) the latest Brave Update |Brave|0.23.39|V8|6.7.288.46| has fixed the issue for me, now have Tor Browser tab working great on my older Mac. Good job!
Well done guys this latest update to the browser has corrected my previous non connection to the Tor Network issues. Many thanks to all involved for the help given.
Cannot use private tab with Tor browser it crashes every time, version 23.79. Thanks.
Cannot log into ISP provider either thank goodness for Firefox with enabled cookies works. what else needs to be done.
