Permanent/Fixed "Simplified View" Button

Simplified View, also known as Reader Mode and Distilled Mode.

In the current version “Show simplified view” sometime appears at the bottom of screen, sometime doesn’t.

We need a permanent/fixed button for that.

Completely agree — I understand that ‘simplified view’ isn’t always available for every page, but the toast notification is helpful when you want it, but also annoying when you aren’t interested in using it (I am a regular user of the feature when reading articles, but find it incredibly intrusive when on sites that don’t need it). I also question the need of the home AND search primary actions at the bottom at all times and feel like that may be a more practical spot for a permanent button to activate simplified view.

Something like this seems like it would be more beneficial:

  • Show the toast notification the first time, but allow it to be dismissed permanently
  • Consolidate the home & search into a single button (Or remove ‘home’ if it isn’t getting much use?)
  • Update the icon for the tab overview screen to be more symbolic of what this area is

This ‘Simplified View’ is seriously pissing me off. I created an account here to just write about this.

In Private Tab, it comes on automatically and then disables all the buttons within that page, rendering the website useless.

I’ve gone to Settings > Accessibility > Simplified View for Web Page

Which says " Get notified when an article can be shown in simplified view".

But it does this on ALL web sites. And then when you try and get rid of the annoying message it cripples all the buttons and images.

I’ve checked the box, and it does something worse. Now I can’t even click ‘like’ or anything.

When I uncheck the box the box description is the same. It certainly simplifies the page. Killing most of the functions.

How about making this an opt-in option rather than an opt-out option, no matter the website visited? That is put the option in the settings, rather than authomtaically appear on every page?

Thank you.

Yes, I also have created my account here to ask for this feature. I use Brave on Android. Please, make a persistent button for the Simplified View. Currently, if I swipe away the toast suggesting me to view a page in a simplified mode and then change my mind, I cannot trigger the simplified mode anymore, even if I go back to the top of the page or reload it completely.

Simplified View on Android triggers only once per website for me (i.e. it never appears again on any page of a website). This is so annoying. I love Brave but I read a lot online and rely on this feature for a browser across platfroms. It is bad enough that I am serioulsy considering switching back to my previous browse where reader-mode works perfectly, all the time.

I think this must have feature for modern browser. Sometimes there is old website that so simple but not responsive yet and the current simplified view feature cannot detect them. I hope this feature can be implemented in Brave soon.

Thank you guys :pray:t4:

There should just be a reading view icon next to the brave shield or next to the https lock all the time. It can look solid if brave thinks the page will look good simplified, and grayed out of it doesn’t. Either way, you should be able to click it and the browser attempts to show a simplified version.
