PDF files are saved, not opened in Brave

Description of the issue:

.pdf files will not open in browser, but will only prompt a save option

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Click on .pdf link on webpage
  2. Save prompt opens

Expected result:
Open the .pdf file in a new tab or window

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.64.109 Chromium: 123.0.6312.58
(https://brave.com/latest/)

Additional Information:
I’ve searched before posteing of course, and all the information I found doesn’t help. I have Brave set as the standard app for .pdf files. I have the content settings set to open, not save. I have tried every single thing I could think of and found online. Please help.

@MeriliciousMG,
Thank you for reaching out.
Can you please open Brave and type brave://settings/content/pdfDocuments into the address bar and hit Enter. You should then be able to choose the behavior for opening vs downloading .pdf files in Brave:

Hi!

Thank you for replying. Like I said, I already have the content settings set to open, not save.

Any other solutions are welcome!

Can you please share an example PDF in which this issue occurs so that I cant test on my end?

The file in question is on my ISP’s website.
I didn’t mean that saved .pdf files on my computer won’t open, I’m trying to open a .pdf from a link on a website.
Sorry for not making that clear.

No it was clear — I was just hoping to try testing opening one of the same .pdf files you’re opening to see if I get the same behavior.

For example, with the browser set to Open PDFs in Brave, if you try to view the BAT whitepaper linked below, does the .PDF also save automatically?

Hi, thanks

This file opens in a new tab - what I would like the file in question to do. I think it’s just my ISP’s website being annoying with the file, but when I open the file in a different browser at least I get a prompt to either open or save.

I’ll just save the files and delete them later, it’s not a major inconvenience I just thought I’d try here.

Thank you again!

It’s still worth a bit of digging to figure out exactly when this happens. Will ask around and see if I can find an answer. Will reply back here when I have one.

I appreciate it, thank you very much for the help so far!
