New tab window does not open a new URL even if it is typed in

New tabs work at first and then fail to open URL.

  1. Open a web page and click a URL that opens in a new tab window.
  2. URL won’t load. Will show “Untitled”.
  3. Typed URL won’t load either.
  4. Close Brave and reopen. New tabs will work for a while.

Windows 11. No VPN, added extensions disabled. Malwarebytes runs in the background.
Version 1.65.123 Chromium: 124.0.6367.91 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Thanks in advance!

@SolarMike,
Thank you for reaching out.
To clarify, this behavior happens when you open a new tab via a link that you clicked on? But also occurs when you open a new tab (like when using Ctrl + T) and type a URL in the new tab?

I will test again and report in about 12 hrs. Thanks.

Yes, when I open a new tab and type in a URL and hit Enter the page does not load and the Tab shows “Untitled” in the ab description. This behavior does not happen right away and is intermittent.

Can you please test this in a new browser profile and see if you get the same behavior? Please ensure that you only have the one (newly created) profile window open while testing.

This same issue is occurring in my Windows 10 laptop for both Brave and Firefox – after running CCleaner Pro. I uninstalled Brave and made sure ALL folders were erased. Then I did a new reinstall, but the problem remains. When I first open an instance, everything works. But if I leave for another task, new tabs (and even existing tabs sometimes) do not respond to clicked bookmarks or typed URLs when I return. I have to kill and restart to get it to work.

Added on 5/2: I created a new profile after I figured out how. Removed all extensions. The same problem occurs as outlined above. After a period of time, new tabs don’t work. Sometimes I get a crash icon. Other times it just says new tab.

Anybody? Even after a clean reinstall, there are some dependencies not being satisfied.

I’ve experienced the same issue many times in recent weeks. Glad it’s not the Kiwi responding otherwise we would’ve been dismissed & told we’re wrong. He’s the worst. Trust, it’s an issue (MacOS here) & I’ll be taking screenshots from now on.
