Long freeze and high cpu usage when downloading file

Hi,

Since an update removed the horizontal bottom banner for the new download center at top right window, Brave has become significantly slower when it comes to download files.

If I download 3 or 4 files at once (e.g. picture files) with no luck, I get :

  • Brave’s freeze that can last over 5 minutes before the window box eventually displays
  • 15 to 20% cpu usage over the freeze

On some site, one file download may start the freeze.

The issue does not occur in Private Window. However, the window box opens one second after download completion which seems to be slower than previous Brave versions.

I could not identify the extension that may cause this. My extensions have been the same before and after my Brave update.

Brave version : Version 1.50.114 Chromium: 112.0.5615.49 (Official Build) (64-bit)

OS: Windows 10
Brave’s hardware acceleration feature enabled
No VPN or firewalls have been used.
Graphic card : Nvidia GTX 1070 (driver version 460.89)

I had the same issue but didn’t have the patience to wait it out to see if it eventually worked. The fix for it is disabling these two options:
brave://flags/#download-bubble
brave://flags/#download-bubble-v2
If you’re simply reporting the issue that’s fine too.

I tried the suggested flag changes above without success.
For me the problem seems to have a threshold of 5 maybe 6 concurrent downloads. Once this number is reached/excceded Brave freezes completely and the CPU use for the Brave process hits and stays at 35-40% with high memory consumption as well.
