Standard install from Brave webpage
each time a webpage is opened, the above error prevents immediate opening
In brave, I need to enter my login password or click on the cancel icon several times to clear the error
The error is consistent.
Exact same error shows on Chromium

Description of the issue:

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Open a website
Click on a link in an email
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): error window appear each time a webpage is called on to open
No difference if that is from an email link or a url
When the error appears the monitor canno be used for any other purpose…menu and all apps are frozen.
As soon as I click the cancel button or put in my login password, everything instantly works as normal

Expected result:

Reproduces how often: Consistently…Ongoing

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Linux Mint 22, Cinnamon (fully updated)

Additional Information:

I am left to wonder when Brave will finally/eventually get their act together …this problem is as old as sand…it has raised its ugly head now for many years…and still no effective solution. i am using Linux Mint 22…the highest rated distro on distrowatch…and it behaves beautifully in every other way…It is only Brave that spoils it.

There was a time when to get rid of the offending ereor, three click on the cancel icon would clear ot from the screen…now it takes just on click or a tap on the esc key.

@Condobloke I remember you posting about this at An application wants access to the keyring "default keyring"

I didn’t go read through it all again, so sorry if repeating, but did you make sure to check two things below?

  1. If you’re using automatic login, the keyring doesn’t get unlocked at startup because no password is entered.

  2. Making sure you’re unlocking keyring before Brave? More details on that via link below. Different Linux, but same concept

BONUS

Borrowed from ChatGPT, but other thing to have you double check:

Ensure Keyring Password Matches User Login Password

  • If your Linux user password and keyring password don’t match, the keyring won’t unlock automatically when logging in.
  • To fix this:
    1. Open Passwords and Keys (search for it in the menu).
    2. Right-click the login keyring and select Change Password.
    3. Set the password to match your current login password.
