Latest update broke copy to clipboard with keyboard shortcuts

With the latest release there appears to be some new additions to copying to clipboard, this seems to have broken some basic functionality with how control+c/command+c works as instead of copying the text it then copies the window.location.href instead.
I noticed this on my personal laptop and now on my work laptop with the latest update this is happening so I know it is with the browser as I am not seeing it anywhere else. Sometimes it copies correctly though which is the strange part. I never changed my brave settings so if this is some auto-enabled setting then let me know where it is to turn off. It is very frustrating that I canā€™t copy/paste with my keyboard shortcuts anymore. Thanks!

Like mentioned, sometimes it works but then other times it just copies the window location rather than the highlighted. Iā€™m 99% sure this has something to do with the latest release. Please provide a fix, thanks!

Iā€™ve seen this in the following
code snippets, such as chatgpt code snippets, github pr files
phpmyadmin trying to copy data inside a data field, it copied window url instead.

If this helps with debugging then thatā€™s good, otherwise I am not sure how else to explain it. I will get a video on my personal laptop later today after work. Thanks!

I am experiencing the same behavior. Restarting the browser cleared it up for awhileā€¦ then, the behavior broke again.

No fix, but Iā€™m also experiencing the same issue.

I opened a github issue https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/29074

Iā€™m experiencing the same exact problem!! Except, for me, when I do command-c (which had always been the copy shortcut for me on Mac) it now copies a url link from whatever page Iā€™m onā€¦ I looked under the ā€œEditā€ menu tab on the top left and sure enough, it shows no keyboard shortcut for regular ā€œcopyā€ anymore but instead shows right beneath it ā€œcopy clean linkā€ with the shortcut ā€œcommand-cā€ā€¦

Any ideas how to fix this? Can we manually set browser keyboard shortcuts on Brave for mac?

I am also having this issue as well

Same issue for me! Any way to disable the default ā€œcopy clean linkā€ shortcut?

Also having this issue! It seems the only option right now is to right-click on the highlighted text, which obviously doesnā€™t work on all webpages.

If you go to the edit menu you can see they changed the command+c to copy the clean link instead of the highlighted content. pretty annoying!

I am encountering the same issue where the ā€œcommand-cā€ shortcut on my Mac, which previously functioned as the copy shortcut, now copies a URL link from the current page. I also checked the ā€œEditā€ menu and noticed that the regular ā€œcopyā€ shortcut is no longer with the shortcut, but instead ā€œcopy clean linkā€ is displayed with the same ā€œcommand-cā€ shortcut.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? Is it possible to manually customize the keyboard shortcuts for the Brave browser on Mac?

is there a work around until a fix - this is unusable I thought I was losing my mind

Seeing same broken behavior.
In middle of code interviewing, due to recent tech layoff. And this is bug cost me an interview.
Had to switch back to another browser, until this is fixed.

I thought I was going insaneā€¦ Iā€™m having the same issue on Macbook Air M1 MacOS 13.0 (Brave version 1.49.128).

Better time than ever to break in MS Edge I guess

Iā€™m sorry to hear thatā€¦ good luck on the search :blue_heart:

Using V 1.49.128, the hotfix addressed most but not all of the issue. Cmd+C is working in most contexts and is correctly identified in the menu. However, every few days Brave will still display the old behavior (along with the old hotkey in the menu) until I restart it.

I think Version 1.49.132 Chromium: 111.0.5563.147 (Official Build) (x86_64) solved this finally. It was so annoying.

I still have the issue.

I am still facing this issue as well. Version 1.50.119 Chromium: 112.0.5615.121 Mac Ventura 13.2.1

Unfortunately thatā€™s an older version of Brave. I do believe Brave no longer supports Mac Ventura, meaning you canā€™t update. If thatā€™s the case, thereā€™s not much that can be done for you.

That said, I do believe you are on a version where there may have been a workaround available. If you go to brave://flags, do you see the option for Override default copy hotkey with copy clean link? If so, set it to Disabled and see if you notice a difference.

Other than that, all that can be said is for you to update everything when you can.

@erick Are you still having this issue? If so, please advise which version of Brave and which OS youā€™re using. Also see what I mentioned just prior in this comment in case any of it might apply to you.
