Description of the issue:
I lost internet so I closed brave without it crashing and shut my computer down. When I came back and tried to open brave I was confronted with the popup asking if I wanted to restore my last session. I clicked restore and brave took a minute and instead of loading my last session it crashed. Now every time I try to restore my session it crashes after a minute without loading anything. If I instead click on “History” I can see all of my tabs in there. Clicking the link at the top to restore them also causes brave to crash. I feel like the only way to get the tabs back would be to manually go through history and re-open each link one at a time. I have over 1,000 so this is not ideal. If possibly it would be great if I could actually view the session file in an editor so I could remote some tabs to better help the session load or at the very least be able to back the file up in a human readable format.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Open Brave
Click the Restore Session popup
Wait 1 or 2 minutes
Brave crashes
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Brave crashes
Expected result:
I expect it to load in my last session without crashing.
Reproduces how often:
every time I try and restore my session
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Brave Version: v1.46.144
Windows 7
Additional Information:
I have around 1,020 tabs open. I know, I should have bookmarked them instead.
Thank you for reaching out and I’m sorry to hear you are going through this. Before we move on to the issue with your tabs open, can you please go to brave://crashes and
if you have automatic crash reporting is enabled (Settings --> Privacy/Security --> Automatically send diagnostic reports), please respond back here with the crash report ID
If Automatically send diagnostic reports is not enabled, ensure you click Send on these crash reports listed on the page, then reply here with the crash report ID.
Brave finally loaded without crashing. It seems to have fixed itself but I’d still like to find out what caused the crashing.
Automatic crash reporting is enabled but when I go to brave://crashes/ I am not seeing any crash reports that have been submitted nor am I seeing any IDs. When I press the “send” button and refresh the crashes page I see “Upload requested by user”. Then after 10 or 30 mins the Send button comes back the the “Upload requested by user” is gone. The most recent I pressed “Send” on has a Local Crash Context of 9a4775e0-b22b-408f-a847-327f7c457884
There is no ID or verification that anything was sent.
Thanks for your reply. I’m happy that for now the issue is solved, about the crash report id I’ll share this information with my support team, so they can be aware about this!
if you have any additional question or the issue comes back, let us know and have a great day!
@Alice2095 It’s been happening on and off ever since my post but usually it restores after the 10th or 11th try. I’ve been trying to save all my tabs to bookmarks but now I have a new but possibly related issue.
Today 1/12 something weird happened and I’m not sure I can reverse it. My computer locked up randomly and it forced me to restart it. After I restarted and restored Brave’s tabs as usual, I noticed I was logged out of everything. Most of my accounts are saved in Brave so when I went to auto-complete for a username or password I noticed nothing was coming up. After going into settings to check my passwords, everything is gone. It just says “passwords will be saved here”. I also noticed all of my BAT is gone and my account connection to Gemini is gone. It appears Brave updated or something because my version is now 1.46.153. Brave is now acting like a fresh install but I still have bookmarks and tabs from before the crash. logged in sessions on every tab I had open are reset as if I never logged in.
Is there a way to recover this info? If not, I did backed up the Brave folder from when I first made this thread 21 days ago. Is there a way I could transfer passwords, wallet info, login sessions…ex over to it? I don’t know where this information is located.
Edited I found a login data file in the default folder. I compared it’s file size and edit date and it looks exactly the same as the backed up copy from 21 days ago. I have a sneaky suspicion that my data is still there but it’s not properly loading into Brave. Any ideas how to get it all to load again?
