How do you add a new search engine?

Description of the issue:

The search engine list at brave://settings/searchEngines can be deleted but not added to.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

Go to brave://settings/searchEngines

Notice there’s no way to add a search engine.

There’s an “add” button for site search, but none for search engines. Adding a site search for a custom search engine not only does not make the engine appear in the “Site search” area nor the “Search engine” area, but you can’t select it as your default search engine.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:

There should be a way to add a new search engine which is used by default in the browser’s search bar without some silly “letter:” shortcut.

Reproduces how often:

Every time.

I’m pretty sure you add your search engine under site search and then set that as your default.

@chrisspen, it’s mostly a matter of semantics. As @marlonr mentioned, those are essentially the same as search engines. If you click on the hamburger menu (the three dots) next to any entry, you can set anything in your Site Search area as your default search engine.

I think the different phrasing is intended to make it clear that this feature isn’t limited to traditional search engines and can be used for various types of searches. Unfortunately, no matter how it’s phrased, there’s always a chance for some confusion.

Same problem here today. And adding to site search does not show in the dropdown for defaults.
