Description of the issue:
Slightly intermittent issue, seen often in the past by others:
Brave is already running, and is my default browser
From another app, I click on a link.
NOTHING happens.
Can monkey around quite a bit, still nothing.
IF I do this while Brave is closed, it works ok.
From then on, all is well… until it isn’t.
I’ve seen info on enabling “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave”, supposedly in Shields & Privacy → Other.
NO. That’s outdated info. Current Windows Desktop Browser has settings categories for “Shields” and “Privacy and Security”…and no “Other” category, nor have I found any setting like what is recommended.
How can this issue be reproduced?
(Intermittent)
With Brave open already as default browser
Click on a link in another app
Repeat until it fails to do anything.
Expected result:
Outside click always works.
AND, setting that’s been suggested actually exists, if needed, and/or the advice is changed.
Same as you MrPete. Just started happening today when I upgraded to Sequoia on my mac. Can’t open anything! Completely useless. Will revert to Firefox if Brave doesn’t solve this issue damn quick
@MrPete,
Which version of Windows are you on? Additionally, it’s worth noting that the default app to open links is also set on your System (Settings --> Default apps) — it is worth checking and ensuring that the HTML links option is set to Brave as well.
Win10 Pro 22H2.
The only non-brave-defaults in App settings for Brave (“Choose by App”) are web3 protocols (eg IPFS, IPNS), phone-related (SMS, TEL…), and USENET News-related (NNTP, NEWS, etc) – yes, I was here in early days of UseNet … ALL HTML related and such are ok.
The potentially unaddressed confusion over “Allow app links to open in apps outside of Brave” seems a good place to begin?
So now I’m curious which specific application(s) you’re clicking the links in? I know that Outlook, for example, has it’s own specific preferences that determine the default application for opening links (you can find it by going opening Outlook and going to File --> Options --> Advanced --> Link handling --> Open hyperlinks from Outlook in...).
You’ve confirmed that you’re using a Windows machine when you see this behavior. The setting you’re describing above is a setting that is only available on Android devices.
