Google Hangouts Extension Cannot Make Calls

Description of the issue:
I can hear audio from sites like YouTube, etc. and can make calls using https://hangouts.google.com. But when I create a call with the Hangouts Extension in Brave, the extension continually shows “Calling…” and I get no audio. Opening Hangouts Extension “Gear” shows blank menus for Microphone and Speaker and I cannot select any device. I can exchange text messages using Hangouts Extension in Brave.

For comparison I can make calls using Hangouts Extension in Chrome. Checking the “Gear” settings in Chrome I see correct audio devices selected for Microphone and Speaker.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Open Hangouts Extension in Brave, make a call, no audio.

I tried doing this with Shields up and Shields down. No impact on audio.

I manually added Autoplay “Allow” for [*.]google.com. No impact on audio.

Settings > Extensions > Hangouts is “enabled”

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
None to share. Difference appears in the Hangouts Extension “Gear” settings showing blank Microphone and Speaker devices in Brave, but are populated normally when opening the Hangouts Extension in Chrome.

Expected result:
Bidirectional audio in call.

Reproduces how often:
EVERY TIME.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

Realtek Audio
Version [Version 1.5.123 Chromium: 80.0.3987.163 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Nothing further to add

Unsurprisingly, issue continues into current version:
[Version 1.7.98 Chromium: 81.0.4044.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)]
