This bug only happens in Brave Browser
(I have duckduckgo’s dark theme enabled)
When I search in the address bar (in duckduckgo) the site goes white for 1 millisecond and then duckduckgo goes back to its dark theme, this only happens if you search in the address bar or go into duckduckgo’s settings. I thought it was a bug of duckduckgo, but I’ve seen that this doesn’t happen in other browsers
how to reproduce it: 1-set duckduckgo as default search engine 2-search anything 3-activate the duckduckgo dark theme 4-open another tab and search anything in the address bar
The screen will turn white for a millisecond before loading the search
@Mattches long story short, this happens if we don’t have #enable-force-dark enabled. Brave will flash white when opening new tabs or occasionally as navigating between sites. It basically takes that split second to check cookies and know how to display content, I guess. Not sure proper thing happening.
If you want a demonstration, can check out my video:
I will let the devs know about this, but if the issue is coming specifically from the #enable-force-dark flag there may not be a ton we can do unless we take on management/maintenance of this flag (as it is inherited from Chromium).
As always, flags are experimental and not always guaranteed to work and/or may cause unforeseen issues when enabled (or disabled) in the browser.
Correct. I showed this in the video, though maybe wasn’t short enough and to the point. But the white flickers that happen when opening a new tab or going between sites happened when it was on default:
