Yeah, big thing is trying to figure out what it is about Shields settings that’s doing it. I’ve tagged in @fanboynz on a few of these posts but haven’t really seen anything more on it yet. We may be waiting until main staff get back after the weekend.
Brave browser saying offline when at youtube Is thee a fix?
Whenever I clicked on a YouTube video it said I was offline but I am strongly connected to my wifi and everything else on my computer is running smoothly(I use a MacBook Air). I can watch the videos when I refresh the page and they work fine on Chrome. This also started last night(Oct 10). Below is the error message that I keep getting when I want to watch a video.
Thank you for your time and help.
@FlashFire could you please advise of the following:
-
Which OS are you using? (primarily has been iPad reporting issue, so curious what yours is. It’s helpful if can provide as much detail on OS as possible)
-
Which version of Brave are you using? (Provide actual version number, don’t just say “the latest”)
-
Does disabling Shields make a difference?
Hello,
Sorry for the late reply.
-
macOS Monterey, Version: 12.7
-
Version 1.57.53
-
Disabling Shields does nothing
Sorry, I made a mistake, and disabling Shields does not show the error message.
Try disabling some of these filters if you have activated any of them recently…
In addition, use this extension and clear the youtube website’s service worker
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hard-refresh/ichmdelihgokllcnibkcpciljnggojkj
uncheck file systems and check the rest and perform a hard refresh…
if the above method doesn’t work, as a next step, you can try disabling all extensions…maybe an extension could also cause this error
Hi experts,
Facing same issue in iPad so 17.0.3. Need to refresh in the title bar to bring up the video in YouTube. Pls help to fix.
Thanks
I’m having this same issue using iPadOS 17.0.3, which is fixed after disabling shields.
@fanboynz @Mattches want to tag you both on this to make sure it is on your radar.
@Healey @FlashFire @Pvs2433 and whoever else, can you share a screenshot of your Shields settings as they appear through the widget on YouTube? Also, have you activated any content filters, which you find in Shields through Brave’s settings?
Also, if you didn’t share already, please advise which version of Brave each of you are using.
@FlashFire are you not able to update for some reason? Brave is now on 1.59 for desktop. I’m wanting to say your version of MacOS is supported. Keeping everything updated is very important in order for things to work as best they can.
Thanks @Saoiray, I’ve uploaded screen shots of my Shields settings. I’ve never used anything other that the default for iPadOS.
Things you can do
- Allow fingerprinting
- test if the site is working private window mode
- Disable Auto Redirect tracking urls
- Doing Hard refresh on yt site
the issue is not with the shields, its due to your settings, themes, extensions, custom filters or something else could be causing it. Also try restarting your device.
I’ve isolated the problem after trying your solutions. When toggling the “Trackers and ad blocking” switch under, the video sites go from displaying the not connected error, to loading the video with a preroll ad. The issue is related to ad blocking on YouTube, and not specific to anyone’s particular settings.
hey, im on windows and im having the same issue. the video plays once you reload the page
Description of the issue:
Brave on Mac when I go to Youtube every video I click on gets the You’re Offlin. Check your connection error. Brave version 1.57.57 my Mac OS is 10.13.6 and I got messages that I can’t update brave anymore on this OS. I can’t upgrade the OS or I loose my old school Adobe products (pre monthly fees). If I hit the browser “reload” video will then play as expected but hitting “rety” on the error image does nothing.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Turned off shields, this works but defeats the purpose I am using brave for (stop YouTube ads)
Load any YouTube video
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
Same every time
Expected result:
YouTube video should play
Reproduces how often:
Every time
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave
page in the main menu):
Mac OS 10.13.6 Brave 1.57.57
Additional Information:
No issues with other sites. Youtube will work normally with Shields off but then shows ads, reason for using Brave was to eliminate YouTube ads.
Hello @tmorris9
YouTube added a feature that it detects ad blockers and if you have them enabled, you can’t play a video. You can see more details in this topic.
A solution is to update components:
Have a great day!
ON (IOS)
When I click a YouTube video it says “your offline, check your connection”.
It only started doing this recently and I have to keep refreshing for the video to play or make it a new tab for the video to play.
Can anyone help?
@Calo can you check YouTube Videos Saying "You're offline. Check your connection." - #6 and provide the info as mentioned. Including confirming whether this issue persists if you turn off Shields?
On IpadOS 16.6.1 and Brave version - 1.57.2
When i use it without shields activated, the video plays normally.
But with the shields turned on, it gives that error of no internet access.
Except EasyList Cookie and Fanboy’s Mobile Notifications [ which i believe are by default active ] , I don’t have any other content filtering turned on.
Thanks for the reply, it stops doing it if I turn off brave shields. Which mean I get ads :(.
