Credit card entry grief - Windows 10 - Brave 1.77.97

When I buy something on a web site in a Brave Browser page and try to pay with a credit card, the autofill is blocked by a gray window titled “Windows Security”. The message is “Brave is trying to …” and it asks me to log into Brave. I have not Brave log in and I cannot proceed with autofill. I can type in my credit card #, expiration date and CVV manually. But it would be better if the autofill worked.

This might be a Windows thing rather than a Brave thing. I do not know. Hoping someone else recognizes this and has a solution.

Thank you.

These seem to be two very different issues, with the only thing related being that it’s an issue with credit card input.

Are you talking about this?

If so, then that’s likely because of settings you have enabled. Brave has a setting at brave://settings/payments that can be toggled on which requires passwords each time you use the credit card autofill. So it showed the card and when I click on it, I get the prompt as seen in the screenshot above.

In that same area is where you can choose if it saves your security code or if it will require you to enter it each time.

If that’s not enabled, then it could be something from your OS or some 3rd party app/program like an internet security program. I’m not sure if you have any internet security programs or anything which might be trying to stop it?

Of course, the other thing I would say is make sure you’re paying attention to any extensions you have and do some scans for viruses or malware. While unlikely, it could be possible you’re getting some prompt from something that is trying to collect information like your passwords or anything saved. But it’s more likely you have enabled settings like said before or it’s something you have on your device. Either way, I wanted to include this as a reminder for a “just in case” and remind you to always be aware and cautious of such potential.

I guess I could also ask, do you see anything at brave://policy?

Thanks for jumping in.

I went to brave://settings/payments and I see this. The window I described also popped up and prevents me from making any changes until I supply and user name and password. But I do not have a Brave user name and password.

Okay, that’s it. You see the toggle that says Manually verify every time you pay using autofill? That would require you to put in your OS password each time. It’s using Windows Hello or whatever. Turn that off if you don’t want that to pop up and the rest should work

Great, but I cannot turn it off without the Windows Security credentials which I do not have. Maybe I do. Grrrrr…

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

@Parshooter99 it’s whatever password or pin you use to turn on your device. Like if you turned your computer off and then back on, you wouldn’t know how to login and start it up?

I know my password, but not my user id. When I turn my PC on, I key in my password only and off I go. But here I am asked my user name. What I think it is combined with my valid PW fail.

That’s the bad news. The good news, for Brave, is that this is a Windows problem, not a Brave problem.
