Description of the issue:
The Brave CPU usage is constantly around 100%. The system becomes unstable. YouTube videoplayer stops working and doesn’t register clicks or keeps running after the page changed.
** System specifications **
CPU i5-7500 3.4GHz
16 GB RAM
Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
How can this issue be reproduced?
Unfortunately it’s constant, not an incident to be triggered
It seems to be slightly better (70-90% instead of 100% usage) with the X.org open source video drivers compared to proprietary nvidia.
** What did you try **
Brave hardware acceleration on/off
Open source/proprietary video drivers
Empty cache
Delete cookies
Expected result:
None of the settings made a consistent difference so far.
Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.75.180 Chromium: 133.0.6943.126 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Can you grab a screenshot of the browser task manager (Menu --> More tools --> Task manager) when the issue occurs and sort the processes by highest resource usage so we can see exactly which process(es) are consuming the most?
Additionally, do you have any extensions installed in the browser at this time?
Hey! Thanks for the quick reply and for pointing me towards the Task manager!
It seems to be Notion mostly, accounting for around 50% of the CPU (this Rainfall is a Notion page). There is a Notion tab open almost all the time for my notes… so that certainly contributes…
I do have a bunch of extensions, mostly idle all the time and not appearing in the Task manager apart from Metamask that shows up sporadically in the top ten for a few seconds.
Thank you!
That’s good to know! Would you share some of your settings, like for instance the hardware acceleration? It is possible that the problem is Notion and not Brave but it would be great to collect as much data as possible to try and isolate the liability… Thanks for the reply!
i have the ai and things disabled as im on on a dual core duo e8400 and 16 gb of ram ddr3 tbh if ur on ubuntu try switching to xfce de it runs much better than gnome imo
