CPU/GPU spikes when watching YouTube videos

Hello!
Long time Brave user, but since reinstalling Windows and subsequently the browser, I started noticing very short CPU usage/frequency spikes in Brave while watching YouTube videos. (Took a photo to eliminate all spikes generated by input)

  1. Happens with extensions enabled and disabled.
  2. Happens with shields enabled and disabled
  3. Disabling hardware acceleration is out of the question, since my main irritation is excessive power usage
  4. Happens with cosmetic filtering enabled and disabled
  5. Not reproduced on Chrome. Even with the same extensions installed and active
  6. Tried messing around with ANGLE backend: dx11, dx11on12, etc — no effect.
  7. When looking into the browser Task Manager, the load is generated by the Brave process itself
  8. Tried investigating deeper and recorded system events using Windows Performance Recorder. From the looks of it, the load is generated by the chrome.dll file (see the screenshot), but I’m not sure what do I make up of it — going deeper into the stack trace does not reveal anything useful. Or, at least, I’m not qualified enough to decipher it.

Looking for help to resolve this small, but very annoying issue. Any ideas are very appreciated.
