Is Hardware acceleration enabled in brave://settings/system ? Does restarting Brave, then opening the YT page and select between 720p/1080p to see if it helps lowering the resolution.

Which GPU do you have?

  • Enabling Hardware Acceleration Only Makes The Situation Worse

Switch the GPU used by Brave to the Radeon ? via the graphics settings in windows https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/77636044/chrome-to-use-specific-gpu?hl=en

If GPU isn’t used, CPU usage will increase (its the tradeoff here). Intel graphics can be quite buggy regardless of browser you use.

Forcing h264 might also help perf (via an extension); https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhanced-h264ify/omkfmpieigblcllmkgbflkikinpkodlk?hl=en

Actually everything was fine till few days back, i am using brave for over 6 months now. This issue started just this week, also i can now see ZOOM is also using a lot of CPU so it can be some other issue too maybe i should ask on Microsoft forum.
