Comcast Xfinity Streaming - Update Browser Error Again

Xfinity has seemingly blocked Brave again. Have tried to add xfinity.com##+js(brave-fix) to Content Filtering as mentioned in past posts and disabled shields, but neither solution works this time.

@bignicksnr generally is helpful to supply a lot more information. For example:

  1. What OS you’re using
  2. Which version of Brave you’re on (not just “the latest” but the exact version number)
  3. What you’re seeing for you to say it’s blocked. Is it just a black screen, an error code, or what?
  4. Do you have Widevine enabled? (brave://settings/extensions → enable Widevine)
  5. Any extra pieces of information, including screenshots.

I did not add all of that info as this topic has been opened (and closed) multiple times already. I was just starting another of the same since I couldn’t add to a previous one.

Win10, Version 1.77.101 Chromium: 135.0.7049.115, Widevine is enabled.

@bignicksnr testing on mine and originally was seeing similar, but am able to see it working in private window or new browser profile. This makes me think it’s a cookies issue.

With Shields enabled, normal window:

With Shields off:

In private window with Shields enabled:

On my other browser profile, Shields enabled:

And yes, you can play

Cleared cookies and returned on my normal window with Shields enabled:

Went to live TV and was able to watch some things too, though screenshot isn’t helpful because Widevine blacks it out, but yeah…

Guess I’d suggest you try launching in Private to see if it works for you as well. Make sure you have Shields enabled. I did have xfinity.com##+js(brave-fix) rule on it, so assuming plays a part as coming with Shields down never worked.

I have performed all of your suggestions with no change. All cookies and site data have been cleared but I still get the same error. This includes private window and new profile. I am able to view without issue using Chrome and Edge.

Weird, not sure what the difference might be. Let point out the filters and settings I’m using in case that plays a part, should you want to test more on it.

I’m also going to tag in @fanboynz in hopes they can look too.

Anyway:

Then there’s these below which have randomly been added as I’ve tested things for people or removed some mild annoyances on pages. But under Create custom filters:

Not sure why you’re seeing this particular issue. Works for me on Win10 in latest Brave build. Are you seeing this issue when simply landing on the site xfinity.com/stream or is it when you attempt to actually stream content?

It’s as soon as I hit on the landing page. it immediately changes to https://www.xfinity.com/stream/upgrade

@bignicksnr can you please try downloading the Beta build of the browser and login to Xfinity and test to see if you get the same behavior when you try to stream?

Just did and the Beta build works fine. No issues. So should I now switch to that build and delete the current one? If so, I’ll need to know how to move everything.

I’m actually quite curious to know why the Beta works but stable build you had already installed doesn’t. In your Brave stable build, do you have any extensions installed at this time?

Actually scratch that – you said you tested in a fresh profile with no extensions so that is not likely the cause.

In your stable build, can you please go to brave://components and ensure that the
Widevine Content Decryption Module is fully updated?

It says up to date. Version: 4.10.2891.0

Interesting. I’d like to see if un/reinstalling Widevine works. To do this:

  1. Launch Brave and go to Settings --> Extensions and toggle the Widevine extension “off”. When it prompts you to relaunch, don’t click it – instead, just close out the browser.
  2. Now, in Windows, navigate to your User data folder – you’ll find this in C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data
  3. Find the Widevinecdm folder and delete it
  4. Now relaunch Brave and toggle Widevine back on (relaunch when prompted) – this should reinstall the component.

Now try visiting Xfinity again and check to see if you get the same results.

Nope. Same behavior.

Also, I noticed that Brave on my Android phone works normally when accessing the stream page. No issues. So it seems it’s local to my PC. Perhaps my stable build is corrupted?

Do other streaming services work (Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, etc)?

So it appears Netflix and Hulu do not work now, but Disney+ and ESPN plus DO work.

But Netflix and Hulu DO work in a new, private window, but still not Xfinity.

I’ll have to ask some other team members to take a look here – this is very strange behavior. If you want to keep using the Beta in the meantime, you can export your bookmarks and passwords from the stable build and import them into Beta:

Will reply here when I have more information.
