Chrome Requesting Updates

Microsoft Windows is constantly forcing updates and disabling features, such as my wifi adapter, when I don’t give permission for the updates. One of those things is my Brave browser. Despite that I refuse updates and disable updates in my Device Manager Services, the browser gets updated and I get notifications in the browser that take over the page I’m viewing saying that my Chrome is out of date and I need to update my browser. If Chrome doesn’t control Brave, what could this be happening and how can I stop it?

The current version is 1.73.97, but that wasn’t the version I wanted to run. It was updated without my permission. I’m running Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude 3520 laptop and it syncs with the Brave app on my Samsung Galaxy Note20.

I have had issues for years with control by the backdoor app “MCM Client” and other similar apps on all of my devices and computers . Not sure if they’re connected. Samsung told me that I wasn’t allowed to remove it from my devices and that it was part of the contracts with all mobile carriers that they are not to remove it. Sometimes people will tell you it’s for tech support to use it to access your devices to help with tech issues, but even Samsung doesn’t use it for that, so not sure who keeps getting on them to manipulate files and control them. Part of why I use Brave is to feel a little more secure, considering these types of invasions.

@JoyInTexas there’s a mix of things in there that makes it challenging to know what you’re asking or complaining about in general.

Brave does have an updater that runs independently and there’s no native (easy) way to disable this. In other words, there’s no toggle or anything within the browser to disable automatic updates. There can be trickier ways like editing in the registry or via Group Policy.

This is one big thing that confuses me. Are you saying this happens in Brave? Most likely it sounds like you’re potentially speaking of an adware/malware type of popup. These appear on some websites to try to get you to install something or spook you in some way.

Often it’s good to share screenshots of these types of messages and give more details on when you see it and all.
