title says it, and i really want them back
@Rekt When you say the SSD “died,” I’m assuming you mean it’s no longer accessible. If that’s the case, unfortunately, you won’t be able to recover your prior settings and passwords unless you had a backup, or if you had your data synced with another device.
If you’re able to access data from the old SSD, you might be able to recover bookmarks and other settings, but passwords are encrypted using the OS keychain. If you’ve reinstalled the operating system on a new SSD, it would be treated as a new installation with a different encryption keychain. This means the old passwords would remain encrypted, and without the original keychain, there’s no way to decrypt and retrieve them.
In the future, syncing your Brave data with another device or making regular backups can help prevent losing access like this.
thank you for the reply
so for the sake of being better educated, could i trouble you to briefly explain how i should sync Brave data?
thanks again
@Rekt you can see the official help guide on starting a sync chain at https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021218111-How-do-I-set-up-Sync
In terms of backups, I kind of touch on that at How to backup Desktop, though revisiting it now I see I should make adjustments so it’s easier to read.
Also, I do want to get affirmation. Am I correct in assuming you are unable to access anything on the old SSD?
ive yet to find out
since its a samsung v nand m.2 nvme ssd, i was wondering if it was firmware related as samsung had a firmware issue with a whole lot of their ssds
