Cannot install Brave, keep getting uncompressed error

I keep getting “installer failed to uncompress archive” when trying to download Brave via Firefox, Chrome, and Edge on my Windows 11 desktop.

I have tried clearing out my TEMP folder, I have ran the installer as administrator, I have cleared out all registry keys pertaining to the brave files, I have restarted my computer I have updated my computer(windows 23H2), I cannot get Brave to download. I have searched the internet and nothing has fixed the issue.

@freez where are you installing from? Grabbing from https://brave.com/download ?

Does it allow you to install Brave Beta or Brave Nightly by chance?

Just in case none of the above allow for installation, wanted to point out an old topic where people talked about this issue for Chrome.

I’m curious if any might apply to you.

  • I noticed I had a really old version of 7zip installed on the laptop. I uninstalled it. And Chrome installed without any issues.

  • Check your storage space on the drive you’re installing Chrome. You should have at least 1GB of free space. Also check that you have at least 8GB of RAM. Fixing these 2 items fixed the issue for me.

  • today I uninstalled ZoneAlarm Free Firewall + Antivirus, restarted my computer, ran CCleaner cleanup and registry cleaner, restarted the computer again, and then installed Google Chrome with no issues. ZoneAlarm Free Firewall + (Kaspersky) Antivirus must have been causing the issue.

  • I did the same, remove Kaspersky, reboot, update now works

  • I uninstalled Kapersky Internet Security and Chrome installed with no problems. Simply turning Kapersky off did not fix the problem. I reinstalled Kapersky and the Chrome install stopped working again.

Thank you, clearing up space(the thing I should have checked first) was the solution
