Cannot get Brave to import Google Chrome bookmarks

Description of the issue:
I followed the prompts to import my Chrome bookmarks. I made sure there are are no Chrome processes running. I have done this multiple times (I have even tried doing this through Brave on My Android [after syncing] and that impossibility will be its own topic under Mobile.). I keep getting the message that it happened, but nothing shows up under Bookmarks.

How can this issue be reproduced?
0. Open Task Manager and made sure any Chrome tasks are closed.

  1. Open Brave
  2. Press Settings
  3. Press Get Started
  4. Press Import Bookmarks and Settings
  5. Select Google Chrome Person 1 then Import
  6. Press Done

Expected result:

Loads of imported Bookmarks are visible.

Actual Result

No Bookmarks are visible.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.71.123 Chromium: 130.0.6723.116 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

I suggest that you EXPORT the bookmarks from Google Chrome - that will produce a “bookmarks.html” file that you could then IMPORT into Brave Browser.

Thank you! Brilliant. I did look for an Export Bookmarks choice, but only Import was available on the window I got to on my own.

Does that mean I have to manually add every new bookmark I save on Chrome If I want it to show up in Brave?

@LG13 shouldn’t have to manually add. I am hoping to learn more on your situation. Such as do you indeed have your bookmarks and all associated with your Chrome profile on your desktop? Based on what I’m seeing you explain, it should work as in the video below:

Also have to say that unfortunately @289wk linked to an older source, so things look quite different. Such as I know if you try to follow what that article from 2022 says, you would be looking for an Export button from the original hamburger menu but now they make you go to bookmark manager first. Then you can click on its own hamburger menu and export.

But Brave should be seeing that if it exists on your device.

You would need to go to your Bookmark Manager to `Export. Once there, they have a hamburger menu you can click on which would show as below:

Thank you so much for your response and the video. Yes, I tried to import the Chrome bookmarks thru both Get Started and the hamburger menu option. Nada. Nothing. Looked under Other Bookmarks, too.

I was doing this on Desktop because when I also tried to import on Android, I got shunted to some nonsensical place. I made sure Chrome in Desktop and Android were synced as well.

When I found the Export option in Chrome’s Bookmark Manager, that’s when the Bookmarks finally showed up in Brave. I just looked and can’t tell if new Bookmarks I’ve added in Chrome have shown up in Brave. It doesn’t look like they’re in the exact same order. I’ll have to spend some more time seeing if they do migrate if I try Import, but I just saw your responses and wanted to get back to you ASAP.

Thanks again.
