Camera Access - iOS settings

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:
Brave Browser not requesting for Camera permission access after it (the permission) was given once and turned OFF (the permission was turned OFF in iOS settings)
After this when the website tries to activate the camera, it goes to blank state

How can this issue be reproduced?

Pre-Conditions: Go to a website when requests for Camera permission…

  1. Given ‘Allow Access’ when Brave Browser is requesting for Camera Access
  2. Then turn OFF camera access in iOS settings
  3. Again visit the same website…This time it should ask for Camera Access again (and it is not)

Expected result:: If Camera access is turned off in iOS settings, it should ask for permission (or say that the camera access is turned off in iOS settings) without going to blank state…

Brave Version( check About Brave): Version 1.49

Mobile Device details iOS 16.4.1

Additional Information:

This is some serious privacy issue, can you please fix this ?

Does it access the camera when you turn off camera access in iOS settings?
If it does not, I don’t think it’s a bug but rather that Brave remembers you allowed access once therefore once allowed, it thinks it’s still allowed but in actual it is not.

If the camera is getting accesses even after turning off access in iOS settings, then that’s an issue.

Hello,

Yes, it is accessing the camera again…but it is going to blank screen (i have been trying to upload an image to the original topic but it is throwing an error always)…This is something I have mentioned in the original topic…

Regarding the below point:

‘If it does not, I don’t think it’s a bug but rather that Brave remembers you allowed access once therefore once allowed, it thinks it’s still allowed but in actual it is not.’

I agree with the above point, but this should not be the way an app should work…

In iOS, if we give permission (location, camera or mic) only once to an app (any app for that matter) , then when the app requires it again access it should request it again…It should not directly access the location or mic or camera…

Once I am able to upload the image, I will do it to the original topic…

@SmartyAadi

I have attached the image to the original post…

I’ll Tag @michal from the iOS support team. thanks for your patience.

This seems to be an iOS system limitation. I see the same behavior on other third party iOS web browsers
