I really appreciate the Brave team for creating such an awesome browser.
However, there’s a catch—many users, including myself, don’t like the crypto and AI features in Brave.
Every time we install the browser, we have to manually disable the features we don’t need, and we have to repeat this process for every profile. This is frustrating. We use Brave primarily for its privacy and security, and that’s what we value most.
I’d like to request a simple toggle in the settings to disable all extra features except the ad blocker, sync, and privacy settings.
I understand that Brave has a large user base, and this change might not appeal to everyone. If Brave isn’t open to this idea, I’d like to fork the browser and remove the unnecessary features myself.
I have a couple of questions regarding forking Brave:
Is it legal to fork Brave? The GitHub README mentions that release builds might use a lot of RAM. I’d like to know the proper way to build Brave for production.
Thank you! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
@gxanshu Brave is FOSS, so you can fork it with no issue. Obviously some limitations on things if you plan to fork it into something to distribute and all, especially in terms of using Brave’s name, logo, or other copyrighted/protected content. But most of the code is completely free and available for use.
Hope you realize that it’s a lot of work to do, which is why it’s not often done.
They are easy to disable and not intrusive. Usually not an issue for except for a small subset of people.
For those who are more concerned, you can deactivate a lot of it through Group Policy.
I’m quite done with Brave to be honest. I’ve come across more issues and annoyances with Brave than Firefox. Now that Firefox has vertical tabs, I might as well just switch permanently. (I’m on Firefox right now, incidentally).
People hate Chrome because it’s controlled by Google, but to be honest, Chrome is the reason why the web is developing so quickly and gaining many cool features.
There are several features missing in Firefox and other browsers, while Chrome continues to evolve with excellent additions.
Although Chrome is evil, Chromium is not; it’s open source, so anyone can customize the code as they like. We just need more players in the market, like Brave, which takes Chromium and fixes it the way users want rather than the way companies want it for profit.
Zen fork Firefox and turn it into a really cool browser. just like that i think we need someone to fork chromium and turn it into an awesome browser again.

Give me an example?
Firefox is getting great new features.
I want to see Chrome getting a PDF editor and Vertical tabs.
