Brave unable to connect to legitimate site

From my Mac Sonoma 14 I’m unable to access a number of legit websites.

The latest one today is marcus.com. Marcus is financial website run by Goldman-Sachs. There is no reason for it to be on any block list.

This site can’t be reached

marcus.com took too long to respond.

From the same machine with no other changes to network settings, I can access this from Safari and Firefox.

If I can’t access my financial institutions the browser isn’t very useful.

Okay this is even more broken.

If I enter the url directly, my tab times out. If I click the link the in the above post it will load fine.

@sss1 I have no issues. I mean, when first trying to connect it warns that it’s not HTTPS, but once I proceed it’s all good and it upgraded to HTTPS.

You also might want to try to see if inputting different URL helps, such as: https://www.marcus.com/us/en

I’m also not having any issues with this when I attempt to visit using any method. @sss1 have you tried clearing cache/site data for the site?

This eventually resolved itself. I’m not sure why workarounds are required? But since I can’t repro this I’ll close.

I’m not sure what workarounds you’re mentioning? If referring to the link I provided, it’s because it was redirecting. Link you provided went to a HTTP that then redirected to the link I provided, which was then HTTPS.

The way websites work is that when we put in names, they attempt to go to domains. A lot of times those domains will automatically send us to other websites. And what we enter can make a big difference. For example some websites might require something like https://website.com while another will require https://www.website.com. Both of which could bring you to two completely different locations.

You can read about it if you want to take the time on the internet. One small blog post about it is https://mytechguy.co.nz/blog/why-does-my-website-not-work-without-www/

I’m assuming perhaps the redirect wasn’t working for you for whatever reason. Therefore I was suggesting you to type the full and complete domain so it would get there without redirecting.
