Problems loading SSL certificates?

Description of the issue:

An insecure connection icon is displayed on many sites (even when they have SSL certificates and are HTTPS). Reloading the page will remove the error and show the site as valid and secure.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

I haven’t found a consistent way to reproduce this issue. It just happens every now and then while browsing secure sites. It started happening a few days back after Brave upgraded to Version 1.17.73 Chromium: 87.0.4280.67 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

This is a screenshot of the address bar on GMail. It is not a GMail specific issue, as I have seen similar warnings in Google and Dropbox:

Expected result:

Secure sites should be secured all the time.

Reproduces how often:

It happens randomly a few times a day, just while browsing (and it may specifically be when opening links in a new tab, but haven’t been able to confirm).

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):

This happens on Mac OS Catalina. Brave version is: 1.17.73 Chromium: 87.0.4280.67 (Official Build) (x86_64).

Additional Information:

I thought this could be a problem with the extensions, so I disabled them but still, it happened. Also, this could be caused by a nasty app/adware/virus installed on my computer, I swapped to Chrome and I didn’t get the issue on that browser (which doesn’t discard the possibility of a virus, but I would have expected to affect both.)

Hello @alvaromontoro

could you try to go to menu then create a new profile and see if it work fine on that new profile or not and have a nice day

I will try this. The problem is that as it is intermittent/random, I don’t know if I’ll be able to replicate it for a while.

no problem try to use the new profile for a day or 2 and see if it show up again

maybe the issue on one of those

  1. the profile
  2. cache/cookies/shieldsetting history
  3. extension but you already check this last point

hope one of those help you and have a nice day

I’ve been getting this for the past week. I seem to have found a way to replicate it on my machine. It happens regardless of extensions or profile. Try this and see if you see it as well.

Go to google.com and type ‘washington square park’. Press search
From the google results page click ‘maps’ right under the search bar.
Once it redirects I consistently see the ‘not secure’ notification.

However, I do not think this is a Brave issue, as this happens with Firefox as well, and when I enable my VPN. I also confirmed this using a VM that is hosted in a different country.
