Thank you for reaching out and for detailed report. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Brave. Could you kindly try to disable cards on Brave. The dashboard on the New Tab Page allows you to disable cards. To begin customizing your New Tab Page, click the Customize icon on the bottom, right of the page.
I’d be happy to TRY that, but I can’t open it. At all. It closes (no, it’s not in the background) the moment I open it. I’ve restarted my machine and downloaded/installed the current version.

Wondering if you can check a couple things for me here:
I know you said you had downloaded the latest version, but on your system, can you please open Applications, click on the Brave Browser entry and confirm what version you see here (mine shows 107.1.45.133):

Yes an un/reinstall might do the trick here — which I realize is unfortunate to have to do but it may be necessary. I would first try simply deleting the brave.app file (leaving any user data stuff alone) and just re-running the installer and see if this makes any difference.
