Brave & Substack Does NOT work on Brave now, but does on Google Chrome

Substack no longer works with Brave - but I have no issues with Google.

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. I cannot post - login - it’s basically LOCKED.
  2. I CAN get on with no issues with Google Chrome.
  3. This start late last week and has been consistent.

Expected result:
I have to wonder why Brave is not working when it did up until last week?

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave is up to date Version 1.67.134 Chromium: 126.0.6478.186 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Again my Substack accounts work FINE on Google Chrome, it’s just I have gotten every thing working with BRAVE … I do NOT wish to go back to Chrome.

I hope this can be fixed ASAP … or I have to move everything over to Chrome.

@jjb-54, can you describe what happens when you say it’s basically locked? Are there any error messages? Does it stay on the login page without progressing or submitting anything? It’s easier to help if you can provide more details.

There could be several reasons:

  • An extension causing issues.
  • Bad cookies that need clearing.
  • A setting preventing cookies.
  • Shields settings.

There are many possibilities to consider. With at least the above listed, can you try in a private window and see if you have any luck?

I can go into Substack and NOTHING works in BRAVE … NOTHING!

  • I cleared the cookies and history several times.

  • Cookies are prompt and I don’t say no … for the most part.

  • I totally disabled the Shield, thinking it was an issue. Totally TURNED OFF.
But the thing is - G. Chrome works just fine with Substack. I get the POST Icon - refresh icon - and so on … basically IT WORKS JUST FINE!

  • I go back to BRAVE and it’s like what would be first thought: BANNED … but I was assured I was not and they even checked. Everything works just fine in Chrome.

So this is indeed a BRAVE specific issue. Heck I even tried Microsoft Edge ( which I totally hate!!! ) and it works fine there too.

I will try to give you as much information as I can … just let me know what else you need??

But HOW? For example, look what happens when I go:

Exactly! It’s works just fine in Brave. So we’re trying to figure out what your issue is.

Could you describe what exactly happens when you go to the page? Does it load? Does it freeze? Does it crash? Additionally, are you using any extensions?

Also, please try the following steps:

  1. Open Substack in a private window. Does it work?
  2. Create a new browser profile by clicking the hamburger menu image, selecting More ToolsAdd new profile, and trying without making changes or adding extensions. Does it work?

I can Log in … I can read posts from the various subscriptions that I have. But every tool - Post - check account status and anything that would normally have a button or such to click for various actions / activities are either not there are null. They will not / do not work.

Okay, so I keep looking. I just went to Write and it allows me:

Seems to work.

And when looking at something, can click and response:

I created a Substack just to test. I’m not sure how things normally look for you or what you’re trying to do. If you could share screenshots highlighting the difference, it might help to make more sense. But as of this moment, it seems like everything works just fine.

Here are two captures with text added to show I see them, but they do not work on my current Brave. They work on Chrome and Edge with no problem.
But … this did work about a week ago on Brave with no problem at all.

As stated, this all worked early last week … if I remember right, it stopped Thurs working. But on Chrome and Edge they work just fine.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Thanks for showing that @jjb-54. Earlier, I asked you to try opening a private window and see if it would work there, and if that didn’t work, to try a new profile. Have you attempted either of these steps? You haven’t replied with confirmation or the results.

To help you understand why I’m asking this:

  • Opening in a private window creates a session with no cookies and all extensions disabled by default. This helps identify if bad cookies or a conflict with extensions is causing the issue.
  • Creating a second profile (this won’t delete yours or cause any harm) creates an additional browser profile with default settings, no extensions, and no cookies. This is a comprehensive troubleshooting step.

Knowing the results of these steps can help us find the right solution for you.

Okay … sorry … got laser focused on the screen captures …

Will do that now.

When I do that - NEW PRIVATE WINDOW - I have to go through a “Create a new account” because it won’t recognize my current status / sign in.
“Sorry, but that account ( mine ) is already active, please reg. with a new account.”

This is incorrect. Instead of creating a new account, choose to sign in. It’s asking for this because there are no cookies in the private window. If you didn’t experience this when you cleared cookies earlier, it indicates that some cookies remained.

This message appears because you tried to create a new account with existing credentials. They prevent duplicate accounts.

You should see a button on Substack in the upper right of their main page that looks like this:

Clicking that brings you to a sign-in page where you can enter your information:

I tested this myself and had no issues. If I’m mistaken, please correct me and share more details. I’m trying to walk you through everything as best as I can.

okay - I did it and in fact tried two things:

  • Just open a NEW PRIVATE WINDOW.

  • NO THAT DID NOT WORK. Even signing in I get the same “locked” keys.

  • Then I tried just opening and creating a NEW PROFILE WINDOW and still the same issue.

Again - Chrome and Edge no issues and I make sure that they are totally closed when using BRAVE.

@fanboynz would you have any ideas on what else might be causing issues for compatibility for them?

Which lists do you have enabled in brave://adblock @jjb-54 ?

Okay, I’m done. Sorry

  • but now Youtube, even with Shields down, NO USE.
  • Rumble, even the same thing.
  • I am told with both to TURN OFF ADD BLOCKER!

I do and refresh and refresh and your ADDBLOCKER is still, for some reason being seen.

I’m sorry - I want to support you, but this is just getting too problematic. I am using up way too much time trying to sort this all out, when Chrome has NO ISSUES AT ALL, even with my ADDBLOCKER … it works. ???

  • NO I DO NOT USE YOUR ADDBLOCKER WITH MINE. IT IS CHROME SPECIFIC.

I’m still trying to figure out what changed, as no UPDATES to Windows 10 PRO 64Bit.
No Change to any of my background software.
No Change at all … it was clearly on the other side of this screen, since Chrome and EDGE work * JUST FINE *. ???
