Brave spins and spins while other browsers work fine

Description of the issue:

Periodically throughout the day, I get spinners that stop Brave in its tracks and seem to persist for several minutes. Sometimes they stop, sometimes I get impatient and reboot, and then it works again. To confirm that the problem is Brave and not my internet, I open other browsers which are always working fine.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Have lots of tabs open (50+) across different Brave windows
  2. Not using Tor or anything special, just vanilla Brave
  3. Shields are up or down, doesn’t matter
  4. Windows is completely up to date

Expected result:

Spinner freezes the screen, can’t do a thing.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

1.18.75

Additional Information:

Can’t think of any, other than I am using a brand new 11th Gen Core i7 chip in my new HP Envy 360, though other browsers don’t seem to have a problem with it.

@RuffTimo,
The issue may be coming from one of the 50+ sites you have open – can you try just opening a few tabs and then browsing as you normally would (minus the multitude of tabs of course) see if you get the same behavior?

Guess I could, though trial and error through combinations of tabs seems like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Is there any way to look at some behavior of a tab to look for something that might be pegged or stuck somehow? When this happens all of the Brave tabs freeze, and I have several different windows with different groups of tabs, and they all get stuck.

But my computer isn’t stuck, I can open chrome and surf around the internet just fine. It’s only Brave.

Please let me know if you can think of something better than the trial/error approach… I don’t have the time to do that effectively.

Without more information to go on, the trial and error method is how we narrow down the cause of the issue. Either way, the first step is to determine whether Brave – by itself, without several windows and tabs open – is misbehaving.

Try opening a new Brave window by itself with no tabs in it – ensure that you don’t have any other windows open. Now try browsing relatively normally within this one window. Does the browser/screen still freeze?
