Spell checker keeps disabling itself. I reported this before here, about a year ago but it’s still happening.
How can this issue be reproduced?
I suspect it happens sometimes when brave updates, but I’m not sure. However, I am 100% sure that the spell checker disables itself. I re-enabled it at least 10 times so far.
I notice the problem when I write something and mistakes are not underlined.
If have the same issue on Linux (Fedora 41 KDE, official Brave package from repo). Did you check if you have dictionary download errors? (Settings → language)
On my device, the cause is that the dictionaries are suddenly missing, for whatever reason. This error is repeatedly reported here in the forum, but I have never found a solution.
Happened again today. I made a few periodic checks, as follows:
Checked on Mar. 11 - v1.76.73 (Mar 5, 2025) - spell checker was still on
Checked on Mar. 12 - v1.76.74 (Mar 11, 2025) - spell checker was still on
Checked on Mar. 27 - v1.76.82 (Mar 26, 2025) - spell checker was now off
