Brave shows black screen on Youtube Videos with hardware acceleration enabled

Hey everyone,

I get a completely black screen when trying to open certain Youtube pages when hardware acceleration is enabled in the Browser settings. This does not occure on any Youtube video and only since I got the latest update of Brave. To reproduce this issue, the following things might be required:

  1. Have Windows 10
  2. Have a AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  3. Have hardware acceleration enabled
  4. Navigate to a Youtube video, for example this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZNbHx_H1_s (don’t judge me)

My Brave version is v1.3.115.

I’m apparently not the only one with the issue https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/f2bcxp/brave_v13115_is_causing_youtube_videos_to_appear/

Other users with the same GPU (!) report the same issue. While it is not too hard to circumvent the problem by simply disabling hardware acceleration, it might be noteworthy for the development team. Granted that the 5700 XT is known to have some driver issues.

I hope this helps.

Greetings

@Terrashock,
Thank you for reporting. We’re very aware of this particular issue, as well as many others that surround the HWA setting. We actually have a running document we’re using to capture data on issues with this setting:
