All right, I found more details regarding the issue.
I created a fresh user profile to do more testing.
My findings:
Users won’t be allowed to set Brave Search as their default search engine once the preference "total_asked" reaches the value 3, which translates into 3 attempts of setting Brave Search as a default search engine through the website.
Giving this another thought, I think it might be working as expected up to a certain point. Yes - users shouldn’t be flooded with a message “Set Brave Search as your default search engine” while searching, absolutely true, but that shouldn’t affect Brave Search’s settings where the search engine should be providing an option to users to set it as a default search engine as long as users’ default search engine is different.
So, I’m thinking this could be seen as both a bug report and suggestion.
Tie the below to the total_asked preference:
The below should be available to users as long as their default search engine is different:
On an unrelated note, is there a place on Github where we could communicate directly with Brave Search developers, like we could open issues for the browser? I don’t like that I have to bother you or other Support Team members with re-forwarding messages to the Brave Search team, as if you guys don’t have enough work already.
Thank you that’s very kind, but it is our job after all.
Either way, unfortunately we do not have a public Search repo at this time while in Beta. We try to bring as much feedback from Community as we can to the Search team, so posting here in the Search category is still the best way to go.
I’ll be marking this as solved as you forwarding my report to the Brave Search team is everything that can be done as of the moment. Thank you for the quick reply, @Mattches!
